Default Feedback appreciated

Here is a solo I put together based around some tom fills and different beats. At the end of the video is me just noodling around. Please give me some honest feedback.

Really enjoyed it, gonna steal a few of your chops. Great groove in certain places, there's a point where you're grooving on the hi-hat and the toms, at 1.40+ sounded funkyy.

Tom

Loved the opening little lick thing with the shuffle feel. Everything else was nice and solid.
Good work, nice slippers.

Too bad you don't like Rush...LOL..just kidding!! I heard a lot of Peart influence in your playing and looks like you are working on a replica kit...Excellent playing..nice groove and chops.

What kind of ride cymbal is that?..One of the meanest bells I have ever heard.

Beautiful Dubs too!!

Cool stuff. I like that thing you were playing at the begining, it had a really odd yet cool feel to it.

Thanks guys. Neil Peart is my main influence as is Steve Smith, John Bonham and Jeff Porcaro. The ride cymbal is a 20'' Paiste signature dry heavy ride.

u-oh, here comes a nice - BUT...post

since you asked for an honest opinion... obviously you can play.

However, to me your grooves and fills, good as they were, sounded very on top of the beat. I was hoping you'd play in a slower tempo and swing the playing a little. More dynamics would also make the groove and the solo "talk" a little more.

I get the sneaky feeling you might have been a little uptight about the recording and not as loose as you might have been if the camera was'nt on .

Those deedubs are awesome!

I liked the triplet feel at the begining of the solo. Very cool.

Nice Dee Dubs.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree after seeing the video I didn't play as dynamic as I thought when I recorded it. I am going to attempt some different solos in the future and will keep those things in mind. I would love to hear everyone else's playing.

It is cool that we can all help each other become better players.

Much appreciated!!!!

Chuck

Lose the first two toms and play that again, I'll bet it will sound better, and ditch the bigger splash as well.

YEA!

Well done, Chuck! Love the groove and the free-flowing style you have. Excellent!

Though I can understand what aydee is saying, your style is more of a rock feel than a jazz feel. As mine is also.

So stick with what your doing, man! It's workin'! Thanks for posting this cool video.

And do...Play On! ;-)

Hey great playing. There were a number of great beats throughout that I enjoyed. I like groove based solos like yours far more than chop-filled solos, which tend to be choppy, and usually lack pulse. In general, I really like your busy style of playing cuz it you get more notes in yet kept it musical
Only thing I can suggest, while some of your transitions from one beat to another were fluid and carried the time well, it is something to work on in areas; especially if you can smooth out transitioning from those 6/8 triplet grooves in the beginning to the 4/4 grooves later.
keep up the good work!
