Default Got a New Brain

He he. Upgraded my old Yamaha DTXpress II module to a shiny new DTX IV module on Friday. The sounds are so much richer than the old model and there are way more drum sounds, although less effects which doesn't bother me too much. Managed to get a mint ex-demo module for almost half price, which was nice.
I've programmed my kit to using the oak samples layered with a maple set to give a good heavy sound.

I also picked up a set of 14" ZXT hi-hats and a static clamp, and the ZXT effects pack containing the 18" total china & 10" flash splash. Not had a proper chance to play them as yet so I don't know how well they'll bed in with the overall sound.

Soo... you can call your set "Frankenstein" now eh? (Get it? New brain!) Very nice set, interesting though how you mixed the cymbals in with the electronic set!

The mix of electric & acoustic was more by force than choice. I have severed nerves in my left shoulder after a bike accident, so I can't reach around a full acoustic kit anymore. The 8" pads on the DTX are ideal as the entire width (including cymbals) of the kit is barely 6ft and I don't have to lean over to finish a drum roll :)
I opted for acoustic cymbals as I don't think you can get the right sounds from the module and for playing live I need the sharpness of proper cymbals. Plus it looks better...

Really nice. I'll be building the same type of a hybrid soon. Real cymbals and electronic drums.

"Igor, would you mind telling me whose brain I did put in?"

"And you won't be angry?"

"I will not be angry."

"Abby... someone."

"Abby someone. Abby who?"

"Abby... normal."

"Abby normal? That was the name? I put an abnormal brain in this frankenstein?!"

Definitely a unique collection of sounds you can make with that kit... Pretty cool.

Young Frankenstein for the win.

What's with the Zildjian Re-Mix crash, I've never seen one of those. How does it sound?

I'm not too good at describing cymbals, but it's a really good, bright crash with a fairly fast decay. I've recorded it onto my phone, but it's not come out too well; see attached file.

If you check out the videos on my myspace profile, it's the sharp accent I use all the way through 'A Thing Called Love'
