Default My "new" 67 Ludwig Superclassic in silver sparkle (teaser)

I only want the best of pictures for these babies, but I need to get a decent camera first.

In the mean time, here is a picture of just the drums. It was a picture for when he was going to sell it on ebay, good thing he didn't and now I have these beauties. They were traded for my 68 Superclassics in WMP.

22 x 14
13 x 9
16 x 16

the only different will be is that we traded rail mounts, and my floor tom legs are longer. Drool as you please.

UPDATE: Here is another teaser in the form of sound. Thanks to fourstrings, I recently bought a new mp3 player, and today I discovered it has a built in mic that can record drums pretty well. So I made a short clip of nothing but just a demonstration of the sounds of the drums.

For some reason I think the rack tom could sound just a little bit better but not sure how, suggestions on tuning would be nice from anyone and please compliment or criticize the sound of the drums in general!

Classic 3 ply shells of 60s Ludwig, a poplar panel sandwiched between two African Mahogany plies with reinforcement rings.

Warm best describes them to me, you just don't get this kind of tone out of modern drums!

I'm really jealous. They look like they're in fantastic condition, especially for their age. Was it the interiors of these drums that is the only thing unoriginal? I think I remember you saying they were repainted or someting along th lines of that.

Yes the interiors were repainted, kind of a bummer for the original owner, really lowered the value. And there are no mufflers as well, which is fine for me I don't muffle, besides ebay always has a few baseball batters for sale that I could pick up....

Hey, I remember you posting earlier about getting these things. They look nice and if they're the African Mahogany instead of the maple then they sound nice too.

Whoops I just realized something, they actually probably are maple. I misinterpreted my history, the original Ludwig 3 ply mold had the African mahogany back n the 20's or so, then in the 60s they switched to maple being the two sandwiching plies.

and thanks for all for the kind comments!

Definitely droolworthy. I love the old Luddys, not to mention the Premiers and Slingerlands, which is what I played on back in the day. And I agree with you 100% - as much as I love my kit presently, it sure seems like the drums in the 60's and 70's had a sound that is just not replicated today.

Be proud, I sure would be!! Thanks very much for bringing back some memories!

Really nice drums. I thought they were new at first! Excellent find. The old-style tom holder on the bass drum is cool.

I would vote for Zildjian Armand or Bosphorus Traditional to complete that retro thing instead of Konstantinoples.

Both other good choices. A friend is a Zildjian Dealer who got some Armands in when they first came out and they have been tempting me ever since. I'll probably eventually get a set but will opt for the lightest weight's they offer...............
