Default NEW! Tama StarClassic Maple

I ordered these drums in June from Rupp's Drums in Denver and could not believe there was a 4 - 6 month lead time! Well, it only turned out to be 3 months. No pics yet of my setup with hardware and cymbals. I live 2 hours away from Rupp's and picked them up yesterday, so they are still not set up at the practice space yet. I'm hoping I can get that done tonight and post more pics. Until then, here are the shots that the guys from Rupp's sent me when it arrived in the store.

Specs:

Tama StarClassic Maple
Green Sparkle Lacquer Finish
24x17 virgin kick
12x8 rack tom
16x14 floor tom
(on order still: 10x6.5 rack tom and 14x12 floor tom)

Cymbal Specs (not pitcured until I get the kit set up):
14" Sabian HHX Groove Hats
9" Istanbul Agop Sultan Splash
10" Paiste Signature Splash
10" Sabian AA Mini-Hats
18" Saluda Ion V Crash
18" Paiste Signature Full Crash
18" Saluda MistX China
21" Sabian HH Raw Bell Dry Ride

Wow, beautiful kit.
The Starclassic maples sound is damn good!!
And that green sparkle...just delicious, kinda reminds me on sweet green sparkling soda.

Please give us some more pics when it`s set-up! :-)

Excellent! Green sparkle is one of my faves.

By the way, it's hard to tell, but in the 2nd pic it looks as though the bass is missing the grommet around the vent hole...maybe it's just the lighting.

I bet if the tin man had asked for a set of drums instead of a heart, they would have been that exact color. That said, I love them! I'll bet they sparkle and shine beautifully under some stage lights.

Damn, you're a lucky, lucky man. They look fantastic. And just about my favourite sizes. How long before the 10" and 14" toms arrive?

I also like your avatar, although I've just had to replace my Cobra SZ400 driver - as from next year it's one of the "illegal" clubs.

Sorry no new pics yet. Should be up tomorrow. The 2 new Saludas are supposed to get here today and I am practicing tonight, so will get some photos.

Thanks for all of the comments. The sizes are definitely a little weird. I wanted a kick drum that was a cannon as we usually play in local bars and I don't ususally mic the kick. It needed to be able to blast through the guitar/bass. The toms sizes are a lot like the hyper-drive Tama sets. I heard one of those and loved the higher pitch of each tom and figured they would sound killer in all maple. So far, I couldn't be happier.

The 10 and 14 are probably another 2 months out. I ordered them well after the original order, after getting a little mid-year bonus at work. I've been playing a 4 piece setup for a couple of years now, so I'm interested to see what it's going to take config-wise to get used to another rack tom. The second floor tom shouldn't be too big of a deal.

As to the Cobra stuff - I play Cobra irons, hybrid and fairway metals (Inertia 3100 irons, new Baffler Pro 3i hybrid and SZ (?) Tour 3 and 5 wood). Of course, my driver is Ping (G2), my wedges are Cleveland (CG10) and putter is a Never Compromise. Same deal with cymbals I guess. I play Sabian ride, hats and x-hat, Saluda crash and china (as of today), Paiste crash and splash and an Istanbul splash. Consistently inconsistent!

Couldn't get the good digi camera, so more cell phone pics will have to do.

Specs (again):

Tama StarClassic Maple - Green Sparkle
Using stock heads - they're Evans G2 clears over G1 clear resos. Kick batter head is a Evans EQ4 (Aquarian SK2 on order). Can't beat that for stock heads.
24x17
12x8
16x14

Gretsch New Classic Snare - Vintage Nitron (like a gold sparkle)
14x5.5

Cymbals:
14" Sabian HHX Groove Hats
10" Sabian AA Mini-Hats
10" Paiste Signature Splash
16" Sabian HHX Evolution Crash
18" Saluda Ion V Crash
18" Paiste Signature Full Crash
18" Saluda MistX China
21" Sabian HH Raw Bell Dry Ride

Accessory:

Meinl Hand Hammered Copper Cowbell

Better pics to come - I promise. Wil take some before a gig we have on Saturday.

The set-up looks great! Even if those aren`t my sizes I`d like their sound.
How are they tuned btw?
And how is the Meinl cowbell?

Those drums look really really good. Tama, for me has always been about strength and the ability to take abuse. but they look and sound awesome too.

Really great cymbal choices. keep playing!

Thanks for all of the comments!

Bojangleman - The original price for the 3 drums you see here was right at $2,000. I still have a 10x6.5 rack tom and 14x12 floor tom on order - those two drums were $950.

Karl- thanks again. The drum shop where I bought the kit had it tuned up when I picked it up and WOW did they do a great job. I took measurements on my DrumDial so that I could get it back to that sound! It sounds to me like they tuned to the drum's natural note, but I haven't removed the heads yet to tune from scratch. I have a great relationship with the guys at Rupp's (in Denver) and if they say that they inspected the bearing edges, then I trust them completely. I may take the rack tom down a little for now to close some of the gap between it and the floor tom until the other 2 drums arrive. The floor tom has a great grumble sound that I can't bring myself to change. The Meinl cowbell is great, but not very loud. I usually do not mic my kit when playing out (primarily small local bars) and it gets drowned out. The tone is fantastic though.
