Default Blingy Brass Snare

One of my new toys... made it from a PureSound brass shell. Started out with the plan to put chrome hardware on it and I figured I'd just try the brass stuff I had laying around. Ended up really liking the look of it.

(PureSound made a limited edition snare line from copper, brass, and aluminum.. apparently there are still a few shells out there in the wild though.. list price originally was close to a grand on their drums!)

As with all brass snares it's got great cut and pop but I was really blown away by the sensitivity. Guess that's because the shell is only 1mm thick! Oh and yes I put snare wires on it =P

Nice is this one for you or selling? I'd love a smaller brass shell like 13x4(or 4.5) for a sensitive loud side snare or a main snare when my 14x6.5 is too much.

Im babbling! Loving the work!

What diameter? What depth?
Nice new snare drum...lately I noticed that brass and bronze snare drums would work well for me, too. Actually I really like the characteristics of those metals!

It's actually up on ebay in my McKenzieDrums store. I bought 6 metal shells as projects to compare the sounds and this is the first out of them that I've finished.

It's 14 x 5, shell is 1mm thick (or thin rather) and has flanged hoops like you'd see on a Ludwig or similar. Very sensitive with the typical brass brightness. Definitely a bit heavier than my mag lol

Scratch that... one of my fellow builders over at GhostNote decided he had to have it so it's going to his house tomorrow. Guess I have to finish up that copper one now.

That is a beautiful snare drum. Let us know how the next one turns out.

I'll see if my buddy Greg can get a recording. It's already boxed up and ready to ship out first thing tomorrow. He had purchased a Supraphonic and just wasn't pleased with the sound so this is replacing that. Pretty big shoes to fill!

Don't take that out in the sunlight and photograph it - it could cause injury!

"Retina-detaching bling."

A beautiful drum and perfect hardware.

Hahaha.. Thanks guys =) We'll see what the new owner has to say about it tomorrow when it shows up at his door. I'm hoping it's exactly what he's looking for. I've got a few options to swap it out if it's not but I think he'll enjoy it. Didn't play it a lot but it's a beautiful sounding drum from what little I played around with it.
