Default My new Gretsch Piccolo - Mighty Mini Blackhawk snare

I just bought this a few hours ago. I saw it in a local drum store, tried it out and thought it was kinda cool. It's a Gretsch Blackhawk 5 1/2" x10" "Mighty Mini" piccolo snare. I'm impressed with the sound. It's an 8ply Basswood (Tilia americana) or American Linden in Natural Gloss. It will be a nice addition to my new 6pc Gretsch African Mahogany's and Roto Toms.

Hi Fijjibo
Before I bought it - while I was in the store looking at it - I tuned it down as far as I could, just to see how low it would go and if it still sounded good - it did. Then, I cranked it up to a nice high pitch (both heads) and it sounded great with the snares on and off. I was happy with it. I just got a call from the store owner where I bought it and he said there's another part to go with the drum that wasn't given to me yesterday when I bought it - it was hidden behind some other drums. It's an arm to go with the mount that's on the drum.

I'm happy with the sound and the look! It's a great finish - doesn't match my African Mahogany Gretsch drum colour, but it's a gloss finish sort of like the mahogany's and - hey - it's a Gretsch.

Looks like a great find. Those 10" snares are great when you really need that tight backbeat, huh? Makes me want to go buy one myself.

Hey, KONA, this looks more like a popcorn... the set up is looking real good, though, with the gretsch drums .

I tried the PEARL firecracker which was tempting, but I didnt buy it.

Let us know how you like this guy.

How did you make out on the pedal front?

I haven't bought any hardware or cymbals yet. I've got a plan though and it will come together soon enough. I think I'm going with Pearl pedals. The Axis pedals would fit my big kippers (size 15 shoe) better than the Pearl, Gibraltar or any of the others I've tried but I don't really like the look of them. Maybe I souldn't worry too much about the look (Industrial-looking). I'm taking my time so we'll see.

* Yes aydee it does look like a Pearl 10x6 "popcorn" drum.

Cheers

My God! I just checked your kit out!
Whoa! Holy-Terry-Bozzio Batman! What an amazing kit!

I like all your sound tracks too -nice touch. Good work.

I'm just starting out with the drum kit (again after leaving it for 31 years) - I too like my new Mighty Mini Gretsch.

I'm inspired to get a accent snare mounted via cymbal stand.
