Default Aquarian Super 2 w/ studio ring comparison

Ok, I've searched and cant' find anything but wanted to run this by you all...

Would it be safe to say that if I was using coated or clear EC2s for batter heads, and I liked them, ...that the Super 2 w/ sxring would work nicely to replace the EC2s?

I think so........

Thoughts?

If you liked the EC2, I'd say yes to your interrogation. They might be little bit more open though but I'm very unsure.

I went from clear G2s/EC2s to clear Super 2s recently; they don't sound 'exactly' the same as the Evans heads, but they're the closest I've heard.

I've used the clear and coated EC2s, clear EC1s and clear Super 2s. The clear Super 2s sound similar to the clear EC2s. The Studio X rings may muffle the drum down more than you want if you like the sound of the clear EC2s.

I tried the coated EC2s on my 14 x 14 and 16 x 16 toms with clear EC2s on the rack toms and that was a good combination. The big floor toms tend to rumble and the coated heads tamed them down a bit. Then again, you may want them to rumble.

Some of the guys are running G1s or G2s on the small rack toms like the 8 and 10 inchers, and then going with EC2s on the rest of the kit. Sometimes the 8 inch toms tend to choke and need a more open head.

It's taken me two years to get a sound that I can live with, and it's still not perfect. There are so many variables. You just have to experiment. The down side is that it costs a lot.

Ok ..thanks Freddy....but let's think about it like this...

The EC2 is a double ply head w/ a dampening ring.......the Super 2 w/ the studio x ring is a THINNER double ply head w/ a dampening ring....to me, it would seem that they are a good comparison, no?

Sorry for the slow response.

The EC series heads have a small thin edge control ring. The Studio X heads use more material to dampen the head. My guess would be that the Super 2 with the X ring would be less open sounding than the ECs.

Let us know how it works out if you go with them.

Take care.

The Remo Powersonic head seems to be Remo's response to the Super kick heads. You might investigate those as well.

I am playing the Aquarin Super 2's with the Studio X Ring. Not sure what they would compare to with Evans or Remo though. I find them to be better than anything going for the type of music I play. They sound a lot like the regular Studio-X heads, but way more durable because of being double ply. But they sure as hell don't sound double ply.

I guess if you played a Remo Ambassador and stuck a little tape or Moon Gel on the head, that's what a Super 2 is like. They are warm sounding, but not dead at all.

Good answer. I was just curious. What you might do before replacing all your heads would be to buy one or two and try them just see how they sound for you.
