Mine is Near The Beginning by Vanilla Fudge. Carmine turns in a nice 6 minute solo on Break Song and his playing throughout that disc is some of the best rock drumming on record. He is also another player from the 1960s that had that fat, resonant,Ludwig sound, like Ginger Baker and John Bonham.

Why is Carmine Appice not in Modern Drummer's Drum Hall Of Fame? He should have gotten elected in sometime in the last ten years. I would have to rate Appice as one of the top ten best drummers of all time. He seems to be very versatile. He seems to be able to play any style of music very well. So why isn't he in yet? Also deserving and puzzling why they're not in yet is: Rod Morgenstein, Charlie Watts, Mitch Mitchell, Ginger Baker, Phil Collins, Papa Joe Jones and Philly Joe Jones. So what's up with that, Modern Drummer?

I have a bootleg of the uncompleted second album from Beck, Bogert, Appice and it's got some great playing on it.I actually like it a lot better than the debut album.

Appice always managed to be a very heavy powerful rock player without ever sounding flat-footed.

And he can sing too!

Saw him live with Vanilla Fudge last year, and one song they played they got Carmine Appice to sing.

Default Carmine Appice

Carmine Appice will be teaching an instructional 90-minute drum clinic at the School of Rock in Downingtown, PA on Monday, April 2nd. We're thrilled to bring this incredible educational opportunity to our students, as well as fellow members of the Chester County community. From founding member of bands like Vanilla Fudge, Cactus and King Kobra to drummer and co-writer of Rod Stewart’s hit songs “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” and “Young Turks,” Carmine Appice has established himself as one of the most influential drummers in rock history. Purchase your tickets to this exclusive engagement at the front desk online through the school's MySpace page. Don't miss out!

Default Carmine Appice/Modern Drummer Drum H.O.F.

Hello Everybody!
I would like to get everybody's opinion. Do you think that Carmine Appice should be elected into Modern Drummer Magazine's Drum Hall Of Fame? Does he belong?

I think that he belongs in there. He should have gotten in years ago. I personally think that Appice is one of the best drummers of all time. He's on my Top Ten Best Drummers Of All Time list. He's definitely Top Ten or Top Twenty all time. I think that he's better than Peart. And Appice can play any style of music. He seems very versatile, just like Morgenstein who should also be in. I'd really appreciate everybody's opinions/input/comments/feedback. Thanks. Take care. Later.

Yes he should definetly be in the H.O.F. for whatever thats worth. I am sure he does'nt need it but it's nice to know your work is appreciated.

I think Carmine is an awesome drummer, I actually think Vinnie is better but thats just a personal thing. What the hell do I know.

Well looks like Carmine gets to play some Zeppelin tunes..maybe he will stop telling anyone who will listen how he was a rock drummer way before Bonzo. I will definetly buy this album. 1) Love Zeppelin, and 2) I do like Carmine despite his constant plea's for recognition.

Vanilla Fudge covering Zeppelin on new CD *UPDATE*
From: VANILLAFUDGE.COM 2007.04.14
An update to a story that was presented back in October 2006, Vanilla Fudge is releasing a new CD in 2007, entitled Out Through the In Door, which is a cover of various Led Zeppelin songs. It was originally slated to be released in February 2007, but has been delayed.

The track listing is as follows:
Immigrant Song
Ramble On
Trampled Under Foot
Dazed And Confused
Black Mountain Way
Fool In The Rain
Babe I'm Gonna Leave You
Dancing Days
Moby Dick
All Of My Love
Rock And Roll
Your Time Is Gonna Come

Default Carmine Appice

I looked through every page and didn't see Carmine, so if I overlooked him I appologize in advance to NJ/DB. I had to post this vid (hopefully it's the first time).

My guess is that a young drummer from an up and coming (soon to be legendary) british band on it's first tour of the states saw this guy playing and went, "Hmmmm....". Personally, I think I found another drumming hero to add to the list. I've always liked Carmine, don't get me wrong, but I never really saw this early stuff much. Really great rock drumming. And dig that crushed velvet jacket!

This is why Carmine claims he was an influence on Bonzo:

He's probably right.

In the 'Thunder of Drums' book about Bonzo, it says that JB got the famous hh/bdbd triplet from listening to a VF recording! Carmine says thats true [repeatedly!!] BUT also admits that he was playing it with dbl bass drums, something that JB wasn't aware of!!!

Has anybody else used his method book Ultimate Realistic Rock? It's not all that difficult as far as a method book goes, but there's some great beginner type stuff there.

Beck, Bogart, and Appice is a beautiful thing.

I saw Sonny Emory win the Carmine Appice Drum Battle here in Atlanta back in the 80's. (Excuse me but my mind is foggy when it comes to the exact year (does anybody remember?)). Carmine got up and played along with Michael Derosier and Sandy Gennaro. Sonny stole the show and won easily. I thought about entering...whew! Glad I didn't.
