haha, I love that thread title.
You`ve got nice references...my drum teacher would be jealous. ;-)
What color is that?? And how do you play such an angled Ride cymbal?
However, the ride sounds damn nice on your recordings.

I bet those sound amazing. The Reference series always sound great. What does the subkick do? I've seen them before and thought they were some kind of low frequency mic, but I think I'm wrong on that.

No you got it, a mic designed for a kick drum's low-end frequencies. Designed by Russ Miller in collaboration with Yamaha.

A very nice looking kit... specs and driver's seat? Por favor?

Sweet setup! I am currently trying setting my ride up like that. So far I'm very impressed with the results. I find I can get to the bell easier and generally have more access to the cymbal, making me more able to "ride" it. Do you find the same things, or do you have another reason?

...Very Nice Nergy.

Did you build the rack yourself? It looks kind-0-Pearlish, but it also looks kind-0-custom. If yes, or if you did some mods on an existing Pearl rack I, and I am sure many others on here would be interested in knowing how you did it. I am not usually a fan of racks, but I am always impressed with innovation.

Thank you in advance.

Barry

Wow - six piece Pearl drums, sturdy-looking rack (looks good too), great cymbal setup, subkick and the carpet! All really nice. Looks like a lot of fun to play - good job! Thanks for all the photos too. I'm just starting out with all this and I use Weckl sticks too - solid and nicely balanced. What's on the wall for sound-proofing?

Thanks guys. Yup, I'm very happy with it, and they sound amazing:

Here's a few snippets in case you've missed my other threads...

http://www.live-drums.com/mp3/Live-Drums.com_demo2.mp3

http://www.live-drums.com/mp3/78.mp3

http://www.live-drums.com/mp3/porn1.mp3

Now to some Q&A:

@aydee - The SubKick is great for the < 100Hz info. I then blend to with my internal mic (Beta 91). It makes a big difference I think.

@Karl - The colour is...Black! :D I don't really know what the exact term is...sorry. The angle of the ride in the first picture is not exactly how I play it. Look at the newer pictures. I use a classic Porcaro ride set-up.

@Maddrummr - Duct tape? Yes, it is. Helps to reduce some of the swoosh sound ;)

@groovemaster - Specs:

22x18, 10,12,14,16 Toms and a 14x6.5 snare. Cymbals are assorted Zildjians. Custom Dry 21" ride, K Custom Session hats 14"....

@fijiibo - Yup, got some Weckl sticks but don't really use them. Since I play each day I go through a lot of sticks and I usually buy 3rd class sticks in bags of 12. Thought I'd give the Weckl (and Gadd) models a try. Normally I use the Regal Jeff Porcaro model...but it depends on the song really.

@somedrummer - I've always had my ride in that config, ever since I first saw Jeff P playing. It just feels natural, the arm nicely stretched out but not too far.

@baz - No, it's a standard Jeff Porcaro rack from the 80-ties. Bought it 86 I think. Still going strong...

@ledzepjb - I use clear emperor on everything but the snare where I use coated ambassador. I use clear ambassador on tom-tom bottom.

@kona - The walls? Just some kind of foam squares. They were there when we got the room. The house we're in has 15 studios/rooms like this and they all come with this treatment. I'm going to do something about the windows though.

Cheers guys!

Nergy

Nice DLX's!

I've been wanting to pick up a Subkick for awhile now, also the recordings sound good!

Are these recordings for you band or are you a session player?

Er...nope. They are Pearl Reference, not DLX... ;)

The recordings are just stuff for demo purposes. I do sessions, mostly via my company live-drums.com, but I am also in a band at the moment.

Cheers

Really nice drums and cymbals! Yes, your ride cymbal is at a steep angle, but so is mine.

Yeah, I honestly don't think I could play a ride at that angle.
