starclassic performer in white silk (the birch shells). zildjian cymbs, tama hardware (iron cobra pedals and hat stand, Roadpro double braced stands), Remo pinstripes batter and evans g1 resonant heads, Roc-n-soc throne (not the hydraulic one). gonna shop for a new snare pretty soon. its setup kinda different now- i got sick of luggin so much around from gig to gig so i slimmed it down a bit, and lowered the crashes for better reach and so the ladies could see me better on stage (picked that one up from Ringo) and cut down that pesky hi-hat rod, but all that you see hear is for studio use. sorry about the pic- forgot my camera for the session so had to use my phone hehe... technology. i will post some new pics soon when i get off my rear... *More pics below 8x10,9x12,11x14 toms, 18x22 kick, 5.5x14 and 6x10 snares Cymbals: 18" A Custom projection crash (left) 19" A Custom meduim crash (right) 14" A zildjian quick beat top/ mastersound bottom hats 21" A Zildjian sweet ride 12" and 18" oriental chinas 9" oriental spash 6" A Custom splash 6" Zil-Bel (not pictured here, usually stacked on top of my 12" china, inverted)

Congrats on the new kit!
It is absolutely beautiful. You will love the new kit. I dig the 1 up 2 down. Looks incredibly easy to play. What kind of snare are you looking at?

why does every birch kit I see have pins?
Why not throw g2's and add a piece of moongel if needed |

wow buncha hits... for starters, it was shot in emerald masterfonics studios in nashville (now bankrupt, such a shame). it took me about 5 years to put this whole kit together, trust me i cant afford something like that all at once, but i decided what i wanted and set my mind to it. as for the heads, the birch shells in combination w/pins and rings work great for studio rock/pop/country work, but for live and/or jazz styles i'll use coated or clear ambassadors for a bit more tone- show up at a nashville session with pins and the engineer/producer will love you. as for snares, i'm lookin into a steve gadd sig or maybe a maple 7x14, somethin to fatten it up a bit. thanks for the kind words, i just recently got on this site and it already feels like home... awwwwwww...

I'm going to play around with some setups once my custom kit gets here. Thats pretty much the setup i'm going for. I'm gonna try to get everything nice and low like that. Looks super comfy!

yep 10,12,14, typical fusion sizes i guess. 6x10 'firecracker' side snare (usually not in my setup anymore), 18x22 kick. kit plays real fast and comfy, especially since i lowered the crashes a bit. gotta get a new snare tho- this one sounds good but does the rest of the kit no justice- something deeper maybe? anybody have thoughts on vented snares? i.e. OCDP or Spaun?

ok some fresh pics of a more recent setup- pardon my dirty cymbals i ran out of cleaner a long time ago and keep forgettin to get more...
notice the small tom on the left... after a recent Americana gig i fell in love with a simple 4-piece setup, but couldn't leave my 10" all by itself so i had to clamp it to my splash stand and it totally opened up a new door. i love it...

not sure how much i paid exactly cause i've added pieces during the last 5 years, but i'd say with everything (including replacing/changing cymbals) prolly around $2000 or so, give or take a couple hundred.

The aquarian sounds great- real tight and punchy. I took all the padding out and it sounds even better, especially with a 57 inside and a kick mic on the outside. It has great response as well-

Sexier ? How did that happen ?
Anyhow, I'm going to move my 13 from the kick to the left side. This will give me a 1 up 3 down with a 14-16 FT combo on the right. |

Awsome stuff. Looks to me in the first pic, things are a little bit too spread out for my taste. The cymbals are a little far away too, but its all preference.

That rocks. The second set-up looks really fun and comfortable.
I love having a hat side tom. I've had one there since around 1991...OMG it's been that long? I'm so old...ugggh haha! Your set looks great. Nice cymbals and the color is sweet too. I hope you have lots of fun with it (and make lots of money in those sessions!)!! |

I've owned a kit just like this before. The quality of the Starclassic birch line is really impressive, probably the most bang for your buck.

Hey, Sio, would you explain your batter heads to me? Looks like EC 2s on you 10, 12s and G2s on the rest? What are your reasons for doing that? What are you using for resos?
Ive done something very similar ,but I'd like to hear your reasons. Thanks |

Well, I would if I could... I think you have my kit mixed up with Trommur's, who posted a pic of his kit on here. I have all pinstripes on mine (or did, at least) with ambassadors on reso. Send him a PM, I guess.

Whoa. I think I like your kit better than mine. I used to bash on people with too many cymbals, but your placing is pretty damn awesome and the fact that you have a 12" floor tom is awesome too. I have actually have one on my other kit. What recording gear do you have? I have some pretty awesome stuff.
