o ya, go for the black panther, however they are not the cheapest, so I would look on ebay. I see some panthers going for 50$ on there.

Or, you could get a '60s or '70's Supraphonic on eBay for $250-300 (more if you want really good condition), and spend the $450-500 you have left on something else nice.
As far as loudness and crack, all you really have to say about the Supra is that Bonzo used one, as did many (maybe most?) other major players in the 60s and 70s.

Pearl Reference snares are intensly loud and powerful with a very tight crack. 20 plies! They weigh roughly 64,000,000 pounds. They are amazing. If I had that cash for a snare, I'd probably buy a Yamaha Akira Jimbo Signature :)

For $750, i'd get 3 snares.
Gretsch Drums New Classic Wood Snare Drum (maple) 5.5x14 $350.00 Pork Pie Piglite Acrylic Snare Drum 7x13 $230.00 Pork Pie Big Black Brass Snare Drum with Tube Lugs 6.5x14 $230.00 Total: $810.00 which is $60 more than what you have to spend but you could always buy used on ebay or shop around... Anyways, i'd rather have 3 different snares than just one type of snare with a big price tag. So get a wood snare, an alloy snare, and an acrylic with different dimensions like I listed above so you can get a variety of sounds when you need it. |

You may have got it already, but get (already have one) a Pearl free floating brass snare. 14x6.5. I hurt a lot of peoples ears w/that drum :^). It cracks like you wouldnt believe. Or the 14x5.5. Go on youtube to Gregg Bissonette playing w/the Buddy Rich band. Thats the snare he uses, and I was lucky enough to get that snare from him after he left Pearl.
