Default Flying Dragon, Iron Cobra or DW 5000. Which would yo choose?

[size="3"] There have been a lot of threads on this subject and it's because of that I am asking this question. I am going to upgrage my pedal to a pro model and because of cost the AXIS pedals are out of the picture. This leaves me with the three I mentioned. Seems like a easy choice but there are so many conflicting opinions it has just made me more confused in making a choice. Are these three pedals equl and if not what makes any one better than the other? Right now I am leaning toward the Yamaha but I am open to advice. HELP!!!!!

I made a thread with almost the exact same title. I went with the Flying Dragon. The 5000 is too costly. Go play em. The direct drive system is so worth the cash.

There have been plenty of threads like this, but I'd go with the Flying Dragon as well. That thing is smoooooooth. I'm not a big fan of the stock felt beaters, but those can be changed to whatever you prefer.

the dragons are smooth, but they didn't feel strong enough to me. thats why i went with the cobras, they felt very solid and well built. and you owe me a nickel to add to my collection of how many times this thread has been created. I almost have enough to buy my SQ2 system

Tough choice between the cobras and the 5000.

I would say the Cobras because i just have more experiance with them, ane they feel amazing.

I have all three and I prefer the yamaha flying dragon direct drive. It is super smooth and fast.

I own 2 Yamaha FDDD single pedals. I played all those choices and several more, and you need to do the same thing. Get your feet on as many pedals as possible. I eliminated the Tama IC early on, in my personal pedal quest, and had a DW5000A3 and a Yamaha FDDD in my studio for almost 2 months. The Yamaha won, I sold the DW on eBay and bought a second Yamaha.

In my opinion, Iron Cobras all apart, Yamaha's are too light feeling and DW's are too expensive. I say scrap 'em all and pick up a pearl eliminator. Im going to switch from axis and go pearl pretty soon.

I-d pick the Yammies, I feel like i can control them the most, and I like the felt beaters.

Like many here have said, it's important that you try them so that you know what feels best to YOU! I did that, and opted for the Pearl Eliminators. They are so infinitely adjustable it's ridiculous. They come with 4 different came, plus the Powershifter option. I picked up a brand new set, sealed in the box, on eBay for $235, so deals are out there.

Is the flying dragon the FP-9410 I'm fairly confused about the various Yamaha models? Also is there a big difference between the chain driven and the other type, there's one on ebay.com which isn't chain driven does it make a difference?

Cheers
Tom

I've had a DW 7000 for about 8 months and while it's a good pedal (as in, cheap :) - I always felt a little awkward on it. While on vacation last week I played a buddy's kit which had a DW 5000 AD3 double-pedal on it.

I bought the single pedal version of it that same night on eBay. :) I got it Tuesday and have been tweaking/adjusting it and I'm thrilled at how much better it is than the 7000. I paid $159 for it on eBay, brand new, which isn't an exorbitant amount of duckets for a nice pedal, IMO.

My drum teacher has an Iron Cobra...I like it but not as much as DW's pedals. I have never played a Yamaha pedal.

except that now Yamaha doesn't call them Flying Dragon anymore and they changed model numbers:

FP/DFP9315 -- dual chain drive
FP/DFP9415 -- direct drive

and the new models are about $15 more than the old model number series. look around though...you can still find the old model number single pedals for $99. that's what i paid for mine.

Is that meant to say fall apart? Honestly, the cobras are the most solid of the three pedals. It also means they're heavier, but I don't really mind. I have the accelerate cam model and I really like it. I also got it new on sale for considerably less than the Eliminator/Flying Dragon/5000/Gibraltar/Axis alternatives, not to mention the only pedal I really liked more was a 9000 (although the FDs were a chain model and the 5000 didn't have optimal settings).
The only two pedals I've tried and liked more than my IC are the new Trick and the 9000, both are significantly more expensive.

I'm more than happy with my $270AUD IC single, not a single problem, still moves soly in one axis (no lateral pedal movement), no annoying squeaks, etc.

I finally decided on the Flying Dragon . What a great pedal, smooth, quiet and user friendly!!!!! Got it on E-Bay for $45 smackers and it's in pristene condition. Gotta love the glow in the dark stripe feature. Well, gotta go play!!!
