Default A Very Bosphorus Birthday!

So, I turned 22 today! It was a great day indeed -- but sadly, I didn't get to sit down at my kit today.

Anyway, since I'm a little too old for lavish birthday gifts, my parents went out and got me a $100 gift certificate to the local music store, as well as a Bosphorus cymbal bag from cymbalsonly!

On top of that, about two weeks ago I won a 19" Bosphorus Masters Ride on eBay for about $180. I got it today, and when I got it out of the box, I was stupified. I'm used to the Traditionals, which have a more 'worn' appearance, and the lathing is traditional. On the Masters, the lathing is brilliant, and the cymbal shines like a diamond. It also sounds like a gem too, with a nice sustained crash and lots of overtones in the wash. I'm usually not the biggest fan of overtones, but when I first tapped on it, the complexity of the wash was just.. perfect. Give me a day or so, and there should be video files for the 19". Anyway, onto the pics..

First, here's an outdoor picture of the new 19":

Here's the underside of the bell: (FUN FACT!: The same guy who signed off on this cymbal signed off on my 17" and 20")

Here's the family! 20" Traditional Med. Thin Ride, 19" Masters Paper Thin Ride, 17" Traditional Dark Crash, and 14" Traditional Heavy Hi-Hats

Annnnd, last but not least, the whole family is safe in the Bosphorus cymbal bag, with room to spare (I could fit at least 3 more in there!)

Haha, trust me.. I wished I had. A 22" Medium Turk would have been, as you put it, "scrumpdiddlyumptios".

Rob: Haha, yes I do. I think they will be a welcome edition to my setup. Just a few more weeks, and they'll be out of your hands. ;)

Again, no rush. I just sold the 19" Turk Thin Ride and 14" Light/Crisp Hats. Hopefully the 17" Med-Thin, 9" Splash and 20" Medium sell. Only 4 days left or so. I really want to sell the Renowns. 19 people watching, but 13 hours left and no bids. Hopefully people are just waiting until the last minute *lol*

Oh and Happy Birthday too btw. That Bosphorus Bag is nice. I have a Sabian bag that the Bosphorus would refuse to get in :D

Haha, yeah I had my eye on that Bos bag since I came upon cymbalsonly. My stick bag is a Zildjian :shudder: even though I play Vater, but I refused to put my Bos pies in anything other than a Bos cymbal bag. Gotta have brand loyalty! ;)

And thanks for the birthday wishes, although I don't feel too much older. But then again, 22 isn't that old anyway.

Oh, and congrats on selling two more of your Turks!

ironcobra: Thanks! I'll try and get them set up on my kit this weekend. However, I'm taking the Bos' to practice on Wednesday, so I'll see if I can snap some quick pictures of them on the studio's kit.

Oh...that`s cute!! =)
A family with father, mother, son and two female twins. lol

really cool cymbals...when those more traditional rides are thin enough I simply love this sound!

What music style do you mainly play? Jazz, Funk?

A quick question -

If I was to pair up a Turk 22" ride and some 14" Trad hats, would they blend well?

as far as i know, turk is darker and more pointy, while the trad hats have this 'tss' or 'chick', if ya know what i mean ;)

I have a 20" Medium Turk that I'm still trying to unload. I could record a short mp3 of it if that would help.

Thanks for answering all the questions in the video.

You`re also a Brian Blade fan? Amazing, do you own Redman`s album "Elastic"?

YES. Elastic is amazing. Seriously, Karl.. I haven't even gotten to the fifth track of that album yet. I've listened to the first four tracks nonstop for the last month during my work commute.. Blade's groove is fantastic.

Yeah...just know "Jazz Crimes" from the album...and I love Brian`s versatility!
Lately he influenced me so much, never experienced this before.
He really composes when playing, I feel so much energy when listening to him...and Joshua Redman.

hey, check out Brian playing with Joshua, Brad Mehldau and Chris Mc Bride playing Bop stuff.

Here are some, imho it`s really worth checking it out:
