Default This is My Ride Cymbal. There are Many Like it. But This One is Mine...

I had the pleasure to have played on many different ride cymbals through out my career. I was a Zildjian 'snob' and very brand loyal for way too long. It was time to buy a new ride.
I took a drummer friend of mine and went into the 'cymbal room' at our local drum store. I explained what I was looking for in a ride. Dry, dark sound. Little wash. Loud bell, and outstanding stick definition.
I closed my eyes and had my friend play the 'looked for' cymbal from different series Zildjians, Paistes and, Sabians.
After listening for quite a while, I narrowed the choice down to 3 cymbals. As I didn't want to be swayed by manufacturer, I still kept my eyes closed.
The ride I chose sounds so, so good to my ears. It might just be the best sounding ride cymbal I've ever heard. I used it at a jam session and I couldn't be happier with the results.
What a great sounding cymbal.

The hand-hammered models are signed by the hammerer... I believe.

Speaking of which, because it is hand-hammered, isn't the title incorrect? Because being hand-hammered, it's different from other cymbals. It is the same model, but it's hand-made.

Nice choice!

I have that ride too and absolutely love it. As it "loosens up" a little, the tone gets even better.

I bought this cymbal because it seemed to be so versatile. I play a combination of different types of music. It ranges from classic (60s-70s) rock and roll, modern country, blues, 'easy to play' jazz, and rhythm and blues (think Motown).
I used a 20" Zildjian medium ride it seems forever. I also used a 20" Zildjian crash-ride for a long time as I like to come off the ride cymbal with a little crash. These cymbals sufficed very well for a long time and they are STILL great sounding. I wouldn't hesitate to use either of them for any type of job. It was just time for me to move on and update my sound.
But, the Sabian I just bought. Well, that is a very smooth sounding cymbal. It doesn't reach out and grab ya all at once. It pulls you in gently with it's tone. It has a warm and caressing feeling to it. It sounds very clear and focused. The richness of the sound is very full while at the same time providing good stick definition with little wash. These are the areas where the Zildjians might be lacking.
To sum up, this cymbal is probably good for ANY kind of music. I like it, but, as always, YMMV.

Very interesting how you mentioned brand "snobbery", because I was tilted that way towards Sabian products. I love Sabian, except I couldn't for the life of me find a ride from them that satisfied me. Granted, I never played the HHRBDR, but I tried the HH Traditional, AA Medium/Heavy, Paragon, and PRO, but I just wasn't happy with them. A salesman at my music store recommended the 22" Zildjian K (modern) Ride, and I have never looked back. It has a nice dry tone, but it opens up nicely when you lay into it. The epitome of a versatile ride cymbal IMO...(no offense to your choice!)

I have the HHRBDR as well. It's perfect strictly as a RIDE, but I want something more versatile. I'm looking to get an HH Vintage... I've yet to play one, but I've heard and read wonderful things.

Best price anywhere, I don't care what anyone says. Nobody would even match this price. I'm gonna get one before it's too late.
