What music they played, where, how big was the crowd, etc. My first event was a small three-song event for about 100 people. I'd only been playing for six months so I was sticking to simple beats and the only fill I could do, but I ended up totally blowing off most of the fills. I thought I'd be nervous, but I wasn't! JD |

The first show:
Our new band had just finished learning about 20 to 30 songs and a coworker (in a band) offered to let us play 2 or 3 songs in between their sets to help get us started. That snowy night finally came and as I was walking out the door I heard the phone ring. I wasn't going to answer it but I thought it was one of the other band members so I picked it up and it was my coworker saying that they cancelled due to the weather. I was bummed but I called the bass player and we were both thinking the same thing. So, we called the bar and asked if we could fill in. They said yes (at a discounted rate since they didn't know us) and off we went. I don't remember much of anything from that night as I think I was running completely on adrenelin, but it went well and they had us back quite a bit over the next couple of years! We always enjoyed playing there and they always (seemed) to enjoy having us. |

My first gig was also in a church - we played for a small audience, as an opening act for another, more "mature" band (included a horn section).
I hadn't played for very long at the time - didn't use any hi-hat openings (and was really impressed by the drummer in the "main" band, because he did, and his kit - that I played on - even had splash cymbals!). The only song I'm sure we played was Toto's "Hold the line", and that was obviously a really hard one for a young, unexperienced beginner... /M

My first gig was a few weeks ago actually! At (anyone from Birmingham or the West Midlands will know the place) The Custard Factory in Digbeth.
I played a hired 6 piece kit. And we played 6 songs, 2 acoustic. (all original tracks, my band dont do covers, we never have done) I can't remember how many were there, but it was a ceremony for a company called Envision which works with students. We had to audition to play there, and we were the only band allowed to play, so thats good. They seemed to like us! |

haha...my first show? errr...I think it was in 2002 or 2003 on a christmas concert in school.
I wasn`t nervous, I was too "young" to be nervous, I just couldn`t imagine how people react on mistakes. lol Just played...and had fun. About 300 people were attending...we played one song, my school class and the choir sung and I played drums, I think I even made a fill-in Pocaro does in his introductional video...nothing big (of course) but I felt good when I did it. haha...but I don`t wanna live those years again. My first show as a snare drummer was in fourth grade, the school band played for all the parents. Was fun ^^. My first gig as a kit drummer was last year in december, i was actually subbing for another drummer, some friends of mine were playing a gig and their drummer couldn't make it so i subbed for him. I had like a week to learn 6 songs and we rehearsed 3 times together :P, but that was fun too :D

my first gig was in eighth grade so about 3 or so years ago. I had been playing for a while and it was at the end of the year "talent show" and me and two of my friends decided to do a Sum 41 song and Smells Like Teen Spirit medley and in between the two songs i'd play a little drum solo. It went really well. Looking back i didn't play anything great but in middle school people are easily impressed hahaha.

My first gig, at age 16, was a private party held by a guy who attended a rival high school. I remember that my band only knew about 6 songs, so that's what we played. Even though it was a very long time ago, I know that I was nervous through maybe the first two songs, and then I really got into it and was wishing we knew more songs! I could play just about anything that was on the radio at the time, but our bassist was pretty bad (he was pretty nearly tone deaf, LOL), and our guitarist didn't know many songs. We did have a great vocalist though! I know it made me proud to have played out for the first time!
