Default My New Gretsch

Here ya go, ordered the main part of the kit from MassMusic and got a pretty sweet deal on the second bass and 14x14 floor both new in the box off ebay:) All the more sweet since the additional floor would have been back ordered until probably september...

The 10x8 tom is still back ordered however and I'm still waiting for my replacement bass for the shipping damage to the first one I got. It sounds great however:)

10 x 8 (not here yet)
12 x 9
14 x 14
16 x 16
22 x 20 (X2)

Turks with weights:)
14" Med/Bright hats 1036/1229
16" med crash 1146
18" crash 1633
21" ride thin 2536

Welcome to the Bosphorus and Gretsch Club, they look great.

How was your bass damaged in shipping? Was that the Ebay bass or the one from MassMusic?

Wow.

What style of music do you play?

Judging by the kicks ill guess rock - how do the Turks sound in the genre?

Thanks, I'm liking both clubs alot! The Gretsch was a late entry into the race but I'm real happy with them.

The damaged one was from MassMusic. you could seen on the box where something poked through and caught the bearing edge pretty good (resonant side luckily). Actually made a small puncture in the head... And it still sounds good:) lol

Interesting, I already have the return packing slip but haven't heard when the bass will get here. It's supposed to come, and then I will send this back. Need to call them.

I would be attempting to play rock or progressive type stuff:) It's a journey you know...

Keep in mind to this point I haven't heard them in any situation other than with my headphones part on to hear both the music and the drums:) But I like them quite a bit.

I had Turks (well still have turks, I'm trying to sell them) and thought they were very beautiful cymbals, I just wanted something a bit more brighter and more vintage sounding. But alot of people asked me if the Turks did well in loud situations, so keep us informed about whether or not they do. According to Tony @ CymbalsOnly it's a yes, but so far no other first hand experiences.

Thanks!

It's the Renown maple. I had been looking at (not really can't actually see one) star classics... I could however hear the Gretsch up next to DW kits and a few others and they sounded good. Whether or not the price is justified in the other kits, I couldn't justify the extra cash for my in-experienced ear and abilities. Having said that they are sweet!

It's the Renown and I would also suggest checking MassMusic.net, I believe they still have a free 10x8 tom offer going... Not sure though. Like I said I bought the kit from them and got the extra bass and 14 inch tom for $600 new on ebay. I'm happy.

Looks like something Louie Bellson would use if he still played Gretsch.

Nice Kit!!
I owned a new Gretsch kit in 1969 - loved them but life took me in another direction.

I checked out some Gretsch Renown Purewood Maple drums similar to yours and they sounded great and looked beautiful! They are well made drums for sure.

I recently got back to drumming after being out of it for 30 years. I ordered a Gretsch Renown Purewood African Mahogay 6pc shell pack. There were none in Canada (where I live) or the USA so the Gretsch rep. contacted me through my retailer and said they will have to be ordered from the "factory" offshore and it will take 3 - 4 months. I've okay with that - I ordered them May 10th.

Will post a photo when I get them (I may not be able to afford the cymbals and hardware I want right away though - will have to work some o/t).

Maybe I will put a short vid of how they sound on a "photobucket" link.

Double bass Gretsch: I think Keith Moon once owned a Gretsch Double bass kit. Anyone out there know anything about that? I think Carl Palmer played a Gretsch kit for a while - I don't know if it was double bass.

I'm going to take another good look at your kit right now.

Cheers,

Kona
