I use to have a TD-3 kit. It's a good starter kit. It's doesn't have all of the bells and whistles, but it gets the job done nicely. Alot of the pre-programmed kits sound terrible but there are enough good ones to suffice. One advantage of the Roland kits is that you can upgrade individual componets without having to buy a whole new kit. So if you decide you want mesh pads or a better module you always have the option. Anyway, congrats and have fun. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Upgrading to mesh heads will improve the feel on the drums, it will feel more realistic. I`m not sure whether it will also enlarge the dynamic...
Anyway congrats to the kit. As a starter kit it`s all cool. I would upgrade to mesh heads because those gum pads feel just too stiff and table-like. The sounds will do fine I think...if not, you can always upgrade the module, right? Roland makes good sounding e-kits...most of the sounds sound really authentic. Karl |

good kit man i have had it for about two years its great for practice and if you mess around with all the instruments you can get some nice sounds out of it.i did go for the all mesh heads after about a year and never looked back so much better than those plastic pieces of crap

I got my TD-3 a few months ago. I'm in a "weekend warriors" band that gigs about twice a month, and just needed something to practice on that wouldn't bug the family. I think there a few decent kits in the module - I think Nos. 2 and 11, and a couple more - for my purpose, which is to practice to the click or to CDs thru headphones, or to have my kids bang on it thru a cheap speaker. It doesn't feel like a real set, but it's improved my time and coordination a lot.

Vexpressions. The pad upgrade will feel nice but it won't improve the sound. Unless you get a different module you'll have to do your best tweaking the sounds or buy Vexpressions. www.vexpressionsltd.com
