Default My Sonor refinishing Project done! Pics!

Well after about a year I got tired of looking at my boring silver finish on my sonor force 1003. So what popped in my mind when I did not have money for a new kit? Of course...Refinish! I did not do A great job at taking pics through the process but I will post what I have.

Over all, even though I rushed I liked the out come. Two things I noticed, there was a long strip of wood missing on the floor tome. Like the outer ply did not meet each other. BUt it is covered by the bass drum. Then there ar some runs pf the clear cat on the bass drum.

All in all I liked the outcome though, for my first try.

Drums before:

Drum stripped and first coat of minwax polyshades honey maple stain:

Second coat of stain:

Then at that point I decided the color was not coming out how I planned. So I went out and bought a second color stain.

Drum with third coat of stain, minwax polyshades bomby mahogony over honey maple.

Fourth coat of stain and polyurethane finish:

The Finished Product:

Two coat of this on shell interior and bearing edge.

It improved for the best my drums sound & resonance.

Really like what you did to that, did you get all the badges etc back on the kit? I was looking at getting at refinishing my kit, but I think I'm gonna make a new kit instead.

Exceedingly cool. Looks like a new set of drums. I know there are some stunning wraps out there, but I've always liked the look of wood. Plus, your original silver wrap was OK, but not really distinguished. You've revealed a beautiful kit under the wrap that was just waiting to come out!

Damn I was gonna say that!

Excellent looking finish although I know nearly nothing about refinishing so I have no comments as far as the process.

Looks very classy. You did an excellent job on the refinish. I would love your kit if it weren't for that Spurs stuff on it =P

That is a really great job! I love natural finishes. The last picture captures the bass drum beautifully, and you did the hoops as well. I don't have wooden hoops otherwise i wouldve done my hoops too. Pictures of mine are in my signiture. I shouldve put a gloss finish on mine instead if satin...Such a rich finish you've got. Beautiful

Wow! Outstanding job there. That was a whole lot of work with a beautiful outcome. Great pics too. I've done some refinish projects but never an entire set. Mostly add-ons to match my existing wrap and the occasional snare. I would guess one of the worst parts is not being able to play for a while. You should be very proud of that beauty!
