I have a 14 x 16, what size should I get? Mind you my rack tom is a 14" and the bass drum is 26". But I am not sold on the whole 18" floor tom. I am thinking maybe another 16"?? What do you guys think? 14 x 14, 14 x 16, 16 x 16 or 16 x 18? |

I think an 18", but failing that how about a 15x15"? Surely Peace can make you one as your an endorser. The 1" difference in diameter may not be enough. My vote goes for an 18x16" or 18x18".

Go with the 16 x 18. A difference of two inches of depth or one of diameter (though better) just won't cut it soundwise. Plus, who doesn't like big floor toms?

18x16 floor toms should come as standard issue with all 26" kicks.

Pat Torpey of Mr. Big used to use 10", 13", 15" floor & 16" floor. He seemed to get enough separation. Perhaps because his racks were smaller, he could crank the 15 a bit higher.
Just food for thought.. Personally, I'd go for the 18" or a 20" :)

18s are killer toms. Really Powerful and low. Great for hitting at that perfect time in a heavy song.

Definitely 18. I just ordered the leg kit from DW for my 16 x 18 tom. It was a hanging tom, but I like legs on my floor toms. Plus, you can use this as a small bass drum in certain situations, with a cradle.

so everyone here seems to think I should go with an 18"
I might just have to do that. I really want to try one out first, so I have to go drum hunting for a bit and play on one. |

Me, personally, I use 14 & 16" floors...but I have 22" kicks. Nick, I have to agree with everyone else; I'd go with an 18" floor. I played a Tama Superstar kit that an old friend of mine owned and he had a 16x18 floor and it was awesome...very llllllooooooowwwwwww. ....then you'll have to add the 20" gong drum.... :) |
