Default Finally Ordered! Tama SC Maple (no pics yet)

So, I finally did it. After posts and posts and more posts, floundering back and forth - full custom, Yamaha Maple Absolute, Ludwig Classic Maple, Pearl Reference, DW, Taye Studio Maple and so on....... I finally ordered:

Tama StarClassic Maple

Color: Green Sparkle w/Chrome hardware
Bass: 24x17 - virgin - no mount
Rack Tom: 12x8 w/StarCast
Floor Tom: 16x14 w/legs

After playing every kit I could get my hands on, I fell in love with the Tama and couldn't justify an extra $700 - $1000 for GMS/Odery/Maryland/Gretsch USA Custom, etc.

Now the painful part: 4 to 6 months delivery time. WHAT!? At least the Gretsch New Classic snare drum I ordered should be here soon.

Aw Man, I was looking forward to new Ludwigs, but as long as you got what you want, Tama makes quality drums too so it should be a great set.

In the end, beyond the sound - it came down to the sizes. Couldn't get a 24x17 bass drum or a 16x14 floor tom from Ludwig.

Great man! If I had the financial space for something like that, and the skills to justify a purchase like that I wouldn't wait to order too :).
The waiting must be terrible though...
Good luck ;)

Yeah, that doesnt surpise me, I think Ludwig tries to stay pretty traditional, but I do know you can get a 16x14 through west coast drum center

You're right - it was a different mfr that didn't do the 16x14.

That is weird. I know Ludwig tries to stay within certain sizes of drums. They do make a 14x16, but it's w/o legs. I wanted shallower floor toms when I was buying my classic maple kit, so I went with a 13x14 and a 14x16, and I use a RIMS floor tom mounts for them. Sound wise, it was better going that route.

Not to bum you out, but I would definately expect that actual wait time for your Tama's. I owned a Starclassic kit and I worked at a music store who was a Tama dealer. When I added on two toms to my SC, it was over 5 months until they showed up.

(My Ludwig classic birch kit showed up in two weeks).

Anyways, congrats on your choice...you'll definately enjoy them! Best of luck.

4 - 6 months....maybe you should go help them cut down the tree. Wow, thats a long time. Hide all clocks and calendars or you will look every day. Sounds like a Christmas present to me. Best of luck with your wait and congrats on the purchase.

I agree...LOL!

They are going to be coming from Japan, that's one of the reasons they will take so long. I had a customer who ordered a Rockstar custom kit and it took OVER six months to come to the store.

I know - so bummed about the wait. But I still think it's worth it. I actually offered to cut down a tree and FedEx it if it would help - all in jest of course.

Thanks for all of the kind words.
