Default Vintage Gretsch 1970-72 whats it worth?

Hey guys i was hoping you could help me with this. I recently found out that the gretsch i freind had given me is vintage. Iv e-mailed gretsch and the reckon its from 1970-72. If its worth some money i would like to sell it as i play bass and its probley wasted with me really. You guys got any idea of its value because i would love to get a new bass? Iv already posted over at the buddyrich forum and one of them thought about 700-850 but he said to ask over here as well.

hey man,
I had a set of gretsch from roughly around the same period ( I never was fully sure of what year they were). I had to let mine go cause I needed more money for my new Sonors. It really sucked because I loved that kit, but ,what can you do?The kit I had was fairly decent shape ...few scratches but the bearing edges were still perfect , anyhow I sold mine to a local recording studio for $2,000.
If you're really hell bent on selling them I would look around for guys that would appreciate them such as a recording studio , a vintage collector or an older jazz drummer.
This way you'll sleep better knowing that they went to someone who will look after them....lol.
Hope that helps.

Judging but what I saw, and believe me ...I'm no expert in refurbishing drums, you'd be closer to the $800 range.Without looking at the bearing edges ; these drums will need some work. The rims and lugs are pretty pitted and the finnish is in very hard shape. It looks like a wrap! ....which I've never seen alot of on Gretsch drums in this time period.

Just check eBay for current selling prices in different year Gretsch kits. There are several kits up for sale right now. Your kit is in very rough shape. Even $800 is high for a kit in that shape. That would make a great players kit.
