I don't have any of their albums yet, but I'm really digging Deerhoof. There was an interview with them in an issue of Tape Op not long ago that was a great read.

Deerhoof is my new favorite band. Heard "The Man theGirl the King" a while back and was hooked.

Greg Saunier is the man! There is some really good vids of him on mydrumlesson.com. It is unbelieveable how low he sits. I think guys like him are the future of drumming.

I've read the MD article about him. He used to sit on milk crate or anything he found at the gig, he doesn't own a throne. He also use a 20" ride over an 18" crash/ride as hi-hat !!!

Hearing this dude play is pretty cool, I have to say like what he's come up with on a two-piece. My only complaints are the crazy hard playing (like seen here) which I don't think is necessary, and I'm not so hot about the actual music the band is playing. But Greg's style seems very creative and intrigues me.

Out of all the drummers I enjoy, Greg is definitely on the top of the list of drummers I'm influenced by. He's inspired me to scale down my drumkit and be more creative and experimental with my music. Throw the rulebook out the window and play what's deep inside.
Not to mention his extreme use of dynamics, subtlety, phrasing, and ways of creating tension-and-release in Deerhoof's music just completely floors me, especially live. |
