Default Do I need to replace both heads?

Hey Guys,
I'm a relatively new drummer, so I'm not really familiar with everything. I'm gonna buy new heads pretty soon (thinking about the evan's clear EC2 set for my toms and the G2 head for the snare, unless someone can make a better recommendation. I have a pdp fs series set), and I was wondering if I need to replace the top head and the bottom head, or if I can just replace the top head. Would it make a huge difference? OH, and what are the actual names for the bottom and top heads? Can I just call them "bottom" and "top"? Isn't it like resonant... or something?
Sweet, thanks a lot for the help.

Peter

Top=batter
bottom=resonant

Its a good idea to replace the stock resos, but you dont need to right away.

Hey man,
You don't need to replace the resonant (bottom) heads right away, but do change the batter heads (Top). EC2's are good heads as well as G2 clear, either way for the toms is good. G2 coated are good for the snare too. Changing the resonant head will make a difference in that it will improve the sound. Best thing to do first is to replace batter heads, then resonant when ye can.

Yea its probably not necessary to change them right away. After a while the resonant heads will stretch and give you some tonal problems...then you might wanna get some new ones. But the stock DW heads that come with the pacific sets arent terrible so you can live with that for a while.

I changed mine right after I got my kit, even before my batter heads came in and there was a huge sound difference. I recently replaced those to Remo Ambassador clears and another big difference in sound (the Evans resonant heads had been on their two years)
New drum heads always make your kit sound better--unless they're Pinstripes :)

You cant imagine how much difference it does replace those stock reso heads. If you can afford it I invite you to do so, if budget is tight though, replace them later.

Any got any opinions on stock sonor 2007 tom reso's as ive ordered aquarian clear super 2's but might have to wait to get some new reso heads. Ive tuned the drums already with stock top & bottom (same heads) & they sound rather good considering (thought they would be rubbish) so cant wait to see what new batters are like

Pinstripes are fine as long as they stay away from me. I'll mind my business and they can mind theirs.

For the snare I might recommend using an Evans power center reverse dot. I have one on my snare (14x6.5), and I love it!

I'm sure Sonor stock heads aren't so bad but Classic clear or hi-frequency would sound little bit better.
