Default Sonor SQ 2 is here!

My Sonor SQ 2 has finally arrived after waiting 4 months and well worth it.
I got Heavy Birch with Rosewood veneer inside and out.
1420 Bass Drum
5x14 Artist Maple snare (main)
4.25X12" SQ 2 snare (left side)
8X8 Tom
8X10 tom
8X12 Tom
14x14 FT
16X16 FT
The sound is bright and puchy with a little sustain. Lots of volume as well.
I'll post some sound clips next week when I have more time.

Eye Candy:

Man I can't tell if I like the outside or the inside of the drums the best. AMAZING dude.
I just wonder about the massiveness of the tom hardware...but they are beautiful no doubt.

Thanks guys, that tom holder is a bit overdesigned, but those toms are going anywhere. When I play the kick drum hard they don't even move a millimeter!
Great stuff, Sonor makes. I have had this kit in my posession for only a few hours and I don't think I'm going to sleep to well tonight!

One of my favourite kits on the forum. Are there specs of th cymbals? The finish and the offset lugs on the snare look too good!

That's very, very nice.

Jojo Mayer is doing a workshop here in Cape Town next week and yesterday I saw the kit he'll be using in a local music store. It's also a Sonor in an exotic veneer, similar sizes to yours. But it's not an SQ2. Probably about half as nice as yours. Enjoy them.

Call me picky, or whatever but ummmm........don't you think that a brand new SQ2 deserves to be set up with cymbals that have at least been dusted off sometime this year??? I do. Maybe I'm just a little strange......or a neat freak.....POLISH YOUR DAMN CYMBALS!!! There I said it and I'm gonna go now.

I wish I had a car big enough to steal all of that.

Stevesmithfan, we've known each other on here for a long time, and you've always had those drool-inducing Ludwigs, but these Sonors are honestly the next level. This is some serious work and you must be exceptionally proud to own such magnificent drums. They're really amazing and if they sound even half as good as they look, well. Then you're sorted for life.

I had to make a second post sorry. BUt I think that set deserves inclusion in every topic on the forum. You could put up the same pictures and call it my "new" cymbal set up, or the same pics, in the other gear section and ask, what pedals should I use.? And what heads, and do 5A sticks with vertical grain go well with these drums. Amazing.

And he'd get away with it too; in territory where very few would.

Thanks guys for all those replies. Hi MFB, nice to hear from you again. I finally reached nirvana with these dums, I'm definetely done buying drums for a long time.
the Artist series snare is wonderful, but it is getting replaced (temporarily) with an SQ 2. X Ray 5x14" Acrylic snare.
Now I've got to go and dust those Zildjians!

Wow...amazing. THAT is a real custom kit. How many plies are the Heavy Birch drums?
I'm also interested to hear what the 14X20 kick sounds like.
Congratulations on a masterpiece that should last more than a lifetime.

Thanks guys.
I'm keeping the Ludwigs for gigs.
The heavy shells are 12 ply and sound amazing.
I love the 14x20 as opposed to deeper kicks for instant punchy sound. I've a small cut in the head with the mic just on the outside to get some extra deplth.
The SQ 2's are custom built to your specifications with the SQ 2 configurator on the Sonor website.

Karl:

The Sonor factory is 5 hours driving time from Berlin. What is the name of the town the Sonor factory is located? Do you know?
Thanks,
Greg

Yes, there are a number of woods to choose from, as well as veneers inside & out, & laquers too. Top of the line stuff, very pricey too.
