Default My new set.

Behold my new set. It's a true beauty for sure! I bet all of you are jealous and wish you could get one.

Specs:
8" Tom
10" Tom
13" FT - a rare 5 lug FT too!
16" BD
12x4 SD

Other features:
Rare basswood, balsa, and pine hybrid shells!
Very "light weight" hardware for those quick set up gigs.
Fire Engine Red Finish. High quality plastic....covering on the shells.
Exotic "brass-ish" cymbals. 10" Hi hats and 12" crash/ride.
Special 12" drum sticks.

A true one of a kind find.

You know you're jealous. Admit it.

=)

Oh sure. Just because you own a drum shoppe you can gloat with all of your new stuff. You probably paid dealer cost minus 20 percent too huh. I could have one if I wanted but I'm saving my piggy bank money for new Solar cymbals. 8--)

The Percussion Plus hardware is, hands down, the industry standard. You've got the frickin metal face on, too. Awesome.

*looks at that kit and then looks at the Gretsch Renowns*

...damnit :(

Those little kits are fun to play though. I bought one for the son of a girl I dated years ago and I had a blast playing it. Although I did wind up putting a few dents in the heads, after all they're what, 1/3rd of a ply? :)

2 mils!

Surprisingly, it doesn't sound all that bad. And the dealer cost was more than you'd think! =(

How much are we talking? When I have kids and they want a drumset, if they're old enough, they're getting something decent if it's close in price to what this little thing costs :)

Okay, just sold my Superstar Customs and my cymbals on ebay. Now if I am lucky I can find such an amazing kit!
hahaha...but seriously: with some good heads, re-cut bearing edges and decent cymbal additions even such a kit can sound great, can`t it?

PS: I`m damn jealous.

I looove those hi-hats :) I would love to have them in my set-up. They would probably blend in very nicely with my other crappy cymbals, and as a right side hi hat I could try to play "double-hat". Now that's something else then double bass :).

Well yeah I guess I am a little jealous... but it's not how I would want my set-up to be :) Looks nice though. Fire engine red rules.

In all seriousness, this kit is an experiment. I must have several parents each week come in looking for a "cheap drumset for their 5 yr old". I show them the very low end Mapex Q Series on the floor (http://www.justdrumsonline.com/store...ndard-5pc.aspx) with downsized drum sizes (18,11,12,14) for $439. They kinda sigh ..and roll their eyes. Each and every time.

"I was kinda hoping to spend less...."

So here it is. The $299 kit. Ta-da.

You can offer them steak, even cheap cuts of steak. But if they want hotdogs...give 'em hotdogs.

That must be frustrating. Some people don't seem to realize that a drumset isn't just a bunch of hollow wooden cylinders, but a sophisticated musical instrument. And decent musical instruments just cost more than a few bucks.

heheheh To a child, they are just wooden cylinders, and sometimes cereal bowls.

Yeah that's what I realized as well about an hour after posting... if people are just looking for a toy for their kids, a kit like that is what they should be after. But if they're serious about drums I'd recommend something else.

I think it's a good move to sell those little kits. If you don't know for sure if your kid will stay into drums and buy a $600 drumkit it's a waste of money. A child that learns guitar won't get a 1000 guitar right away but learn the basics on a 50 guitar and then, if the guitar playing is what he wants he just might get a better instrument to encourage his playing and give him more posibillities. I think it's sort of the same with drumming.
