Default Still... Another AMAZING day..

Today I went to Guitar Center, I got a $125 gift card and I wasn't afraid to use it! I had to whip out the b-day cash and I managed to get a PAiSTe 2002 16" crash and a Gibraltar Cymbal Clamp. Check this junk out! It's starting to look like a real drum kit!

Looks great. Paiste definitely makes some of the best cymbals. How is the china placement working for you?

I really like the china placement, I can hit it from any other combination of cymbals. I love it.

Wow man, congrats.. I remember when all you had were those trash can Tama cymbals, and now you've got a whole mess of goodies. That 2002 crash looks hot, if I weren't such a brand nazi (with sole allegiance to Bosphorus), I'd look into getting one myself.

This makes me anxious to break my Stagestar out of storage in June, I'm eager to get that punchy bass sound only an 18" bass can give.

TAMA, Yamaha, Gibraltar, Stagg, PAiSTe, Wuhan, Dream... I'd love to be normal and have just a few brands, but I love the sound everything makes and I feel it meshes very well.

Evans Genera Coated G1s are relatively cheap (since they come in fusion-sized packs) and they're pretty good all-around coated heads. I have them on my stagestar toms and I reaaaally like them.

Those 2002's are great cymbals, I would buy some if I had the money left over from the mass of cymbals that I already have

I recommend you go to a store and try it. The sustain is very good and they are very crash-able. I love the thing.

MY GOD!

I took the pillow out of the bass today and re-tuned the thing and J E S U S... it sounds so nice.... just... wow, I'm never using muffling again if I can avoid it...

My only problem is now my Snare rattles like mad.... I'm running out of ideas, I put an index card on the snare and taped it down and it really didn't help at all. I tuned everything a little further from each other but... it's just not helping. Got any ideas Stagestar owners?

P.S. I have an 8" Zildjian A Custom Splash upside down on the crash... That's a real nice sounding cymbal.

Yeah, that 18" bass really doesn't need much in terms of muffling. It's already pretty punchy as-is. I think you might be able to cut out the middle-two snares to allow the head some breathing room, but I wouldn't grab your shears until someone else backs me up on that idea.

If you could, take some pictures of the snare side? The wires may be too close/too far from the head, which would explain the feedback.

I 2nd the advice on other heads, those are completely beat up.
Nice set-up, these entry-level Tama kits can be really great when they're equipped with proper stuff.

Nothing I've done can get rid of that damn buzz... I'm gonna work over the summer and buy a TAMA Metalworks Snare. I went and played one a few days back, straight LOVED it.

It's probably the right decision to move onto a new snare, and MetalWorks is a great line. If you want a snare that's gonna crack people's skulls, then you're headed in the right direction. :P

I found that it just has a great tone when played quietly. I'm gonna have to take some brushes into Guitar Center and check out how it sounds when brushed. My dad's band is talking about having me on snare. It's a Django Reinhardt/ Stephan Grappelli (hot club) type thing so I don't know if I would even use any cymbals. Anyways, any recommendations aside from the Metalworks? I just said it because at first glance it had a great sound.

well, depends.. you could look for a 2nd-hand supraphonic/acrolite (if you don't care about mixing a whole mess of companies) for your standard/rock snare, or if you want something a little poppier that works well for both metal and jazz, you could get a steel pearl piccolo -- i've had this one for years and it's still my favorite of the bunch.

I used to have them tilted towards me up higher, a little more conventional. I found that when I lowered them to just over my snare level so I could still rim shot them, but it keeps them comfy. I think that the flat angle gives a better rebound. Just plain more ergonomic.

I just removed my second tom and I am using a 4 piece. It's small but it's so much more comfy. My next purchase will be a dual tom holder. My ride position is what makes it better.

Moved things around. This is the most comfortable setup I've ever used. This shows my Zildjian A Custom Splash for the first time. The China looks strange at that angle but it lets me crash it very easily. I spent forever getting the kit to feel like this. I'm gonna get a tom holder over the summer sometime so I can have all my toms back.

The last pic is the Stagestar brand cymbal I got signed by Mastodon a few months back. Counterclockwise that's Brent Hinds, Bill Killeher, Troy Sanders, and my favorite drummer: Brann Dailor.

I seriously look like a giant behind this.

Man, nice setup, although I still like the kit as a 5pc.

Get some new heads, though! Your drums will thank you.

You only think your kit sounds alright with those heads. Get some Evans or Remos and you will really be cooking!

The new M Birch is here and it's here to stay! Look at this bright green beauty! I doubt I could have made my kit any tackier if I tried and I could be happier with a $96 snare drum.

This thing sounds great with a lot of different styles. I wish I had gone in there earlier to look around! That genera dry head is amazing

Speaking of heads, new heads within the month. I'm gonna pick up 10" and 14" Evans Genera G1 Coated heads. I'll leave the BD head for now.
