Default anyone ever hear one of these sets?

Auction ends in about 5 hours and the guy is charging a zillion bucks for shipping, but it looks like a nice set with some good cymbals

Key word here is Reserve not met reserve has got to be at least 1k, because those drums are great quality and come with some nice cymbals

The auction doesn't say anywhere that the reserver is 1k. But it could still prove to be a good deal, depending on the reserve.

Nothing wrong with what's going on in the auction, that I can see. A 4 piece Starclassic Maple kit new would probably run over $2K. To ship a kit like that with cymbals and hardware, could easily cost $380. Great kit. One of Tama's top of the line.

I sent the seller an email asking how he/she would be shipping and asked about packing. I noticed this is a new seller and would hate to receive a set damaged in shipping. Kind of leary about buying something like this from a seller with only 1 feedback... here is another kit being offered that looks interesting (no cymbals, but no reserve and much cheaper shipping) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...2609&rd=1&rd=1

are these really 3k msrp kits?

Agreed, I didn't see the "only 1 feedback". Pass. That kit "should" sell for way out of your budget. But it might not sell at all, because the cats a new seller.

with that kit and the cymbals i can see there, it would be way over $3000. Used value? well, not far off -- kits like that hold their value well and good cymbals like those command high dollars.... especially since a lot of people go after used cymbals over new anyway (i tend to like used myself). At $1500 that would be a steal.

oh, sorry. yeah i dont think you would pay anywhere NEAR that price for that kit. MSRP really does not exist in the music world. Places like guitar center, musicians friend and sam ash set the prices for the industry. Guitar Center's catch phrase for this is the "GLP" -- Guaranteed Lowest Price (that is the guitar center retail price). I dont know much about these kits specifically but a Ludwig Classic Maple would cost you @ $2000 in that configuration. Maybe less. I would say that Birch would be even less simply becuase most manufacturers use either Maple or an Exotic wood as their high line wood. Birch is usually considered one notch down (but still professional). I love birch and maple both. It's up to you if that is what you want.

The Ludwig is no where near a $3K kit. 8 minutes left on the Tama Starclassic. Doesn't look like a sale. But beware the snipers. And there were, but still no sale.

Yeah and the pricing of list and street value are the real rocket science as it is designed to make th e customer feel like he isn't paying retail, or at least that's what I think. I do have my birch Granstar II drums but I wish that they were not the power (X-tra) sizes. Birch definitely sounds different than maple, not better, not worse, just different!
