Default My PIMPED Starclassics

many of you had been in discussions with me about rewrapping my starclassics (dark cherry fade). For those of you that want to get caught up, here is the thread:

http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=24573

here is the result:

purple glass glitter with silver glass glitter stripes. Killer. The quality is fantastic and i am EXSTATIC!!!!

(also note how my non-virgin bass drum was re-virginized).

Brillaint. Very smooth job. When you first said about wrapping over your kit I thought it was a horrible idea (I like the cherry) but that just looks amazing.

Dude that is great and I cant believe they are finished already. What a great job. Two questions...do they sound any different, and is the wrap one piece on each drum or two of purple and one of silver. Again a great job ,Kudos to the artist

Wow, thats pretty damn amazing! Im thinking of doing the same, but having an all gold glass glitter kit.

I thought I heard you say something like if you removed the wrap, the original finish would be unharmed. Is this true? This would help me immensely.

Thanks.

I wouldn't say 100% unharmed...it is glued with contact cement..stuff isn't made to come off

YOUR DRUMSET HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN PIMPED!

Congrats though, dude. You went from a very standard finish to one that definitely stands out amongst a sea of Starclassics. I'm not a huge fan of wraps, but that finish is both tasteful and proffessional.

Thank you all very very much for your kind words. I love the wrap and could not be happier. I played my drums and they sound incredible!!! The finish is flawless and looks unbelievable in person.

Not much overlap -- maybe an inch? Kinda hard to tell in the low light of my studio right now. I will look tomorrow.

Thank you. They sound pretty close to the same, but honestly they sound a tad deeper and seem to project more, I have them tuned very low and they rumble!!! My Guitarist did bring it up to me that he thought they sounded different... better. Not sure it wasn't the pimpology though :)

according to the guy that wrapped my kit that is you carefully take off the wrap, that the glue that is left on can literally be rubbed off with your bare hand. He did assure me that the drums could be restored easily back to their original state without harm to the finish.

Fat Elvis, this may be dumb to ask, but did jammin sam put the wrap on for you and all the hardware, or did they send you the wrap and you did everything?

no, i did not use jammin sam. I went with a local guy here in vegas. He specialzes in drum building and wrapping. He does great work. I wanted to do it myself, but he was actually cheaper than i could have purchased the wraps for at jammin sam. Furthermore, he threw in new maple bass drum hoops and made my bass drum a virgin. All at less cost than the wrap itself at jammin sam.

I was skeptical as to the colour choice, and although I'll admit I wouldn't personally have a kit in that particular finish, it does look pretty damn good. Certainly individual. It takes a secure man to have a purple drum kit and a gold drum kit. Well done.

im not sure it does -- i never did any test or recorded them back to back. I think maybe it has something to do with the wrap helping to project the sound better? maybe it isolates the the sound and shoots it out of the shell? I have no clue -- i loved the sound of this kit before, and i love it still. I am not 100% sure its different sounding, but i love it. I have been plaung my DW the last week or so, so it could be that i am used to hearinng the maple. I actually think i prefer the sound of this kit to my DW -- at least my taste in tone is more in line with my tama... for now anyway.

woah fat elvis, very very impressive! I loved the original finish, in fact when i first saw it i decided i must one day buy this actual kit in that actual finish! Thought it would be an awful idea re-wrapping this beaut, but i must say - im impressed with the outcome and think you've now got a very original looking drumset on your hands! Well done man!

That's a fantastic job! If I need to get anything wrapped in the future, I'll use it as an excuse to make a trip out to Vegas. It's good that the gent who does the wrap is old school and does not have a website for lots of orders, I would suspect he would raise his prices - I'm sure he gets enough business from word of mouth, and if not, this may be the beginning for him. What was used to plug the holes in the bassdrum?

well, the original finish is still under there -- i can always go back if i want to. I do have an older Tama Rockstar kit that i could have wrapped, but sinking $400 into a kit that most likely is not even worth that much made no sense to me. Just my opinion. :)

thanks ding.... vegas would be a good time. The holes were plugged with birch dowels that were glued, cut and sanded flush. I rubbed my hand over it -- with your eyes closed, you cant feel them at all. :)

if my kit was maple, he would have used maple dowels instead. The new hoops are maple, however.
