Default Tommy Igoe Groove...

From Groove Essentials, Groove 15. I dont have the book, just picked it up this arvo from vicfirth.com. ive only been working on it for about 20 minutes i guess. so it's not perfect. also noticed that for the first 4 or 5 measures my grip is almost french (almost because i dont use the fingers, just roll my hand over). So thats something to work on. Not saying my grip is great anyway. So please comment and give me advice...I'll maybe make a few more videos tomorrow...

Edit- Forgot the link.

That would sound reaaaallly good at like twice that speed and little more solid. Great Job.

I think the tempo is just fine, but the snare dynamics should be varied a bit more.

improve on the second bar with a dynamics on the bass. Remember the bouncy feeling should happen.

That was cool for practicing it just for about 20 minutes! You should keep it up. My advice is to improve your dynamincs and ESPECIALLY your way to execute it. It seemed like you were very nervous...you played it very loose, not with the "brave-movements", looked kinda unmotivated (from what I`ve seen). Remember that you can still play with huge dynamics when playing very expressive. Just play the lick with your own flavour, that is most important, in my opinion more important than any grip issue!

I think when keeping this groove up you will automatically play it with more feeling...and with better dynamics. Just be creative. The aim of such a lick is not to imitate it totally, it is about adding your ideas, creative things, your own style. That lick is just the base. For example Tommy adds his personal style to it as well.

I also noticed a technical thing: Work on your Hi-Hat step hit: Close your Hi-Hat faster and more exact, maybe watch some Jazz videos where the hats are "chicked" on 2 and 4 (and its variations). Closing it in that fast and strict way will keep this mental thread tight and will give you more groove. Also your movements are pretty much always from the hand joint. For example when doing the double on the snare let the fingers and stick do most of the work.

Just some things...overall it was cool, just keep it up buddy! =)
