I've noticed it too, bizarre. I think maybe the mods are deleting old/inappropriate threads. That's all I could think of.

Well, recently I had 4017 posts, and a day later I had 3392 posts. That is pretty normal actually, often old thread are deleted, some posts...in the first moment it seems very strange and kinda depressing for me because I thought I posted total crap...but usually there are other reasons. :-D

But who cares...it is not about how much you post, isn`t it? It`s about quality.

You went from 410 to 406, so you lost 4 posts? I lost over 300 posts in the Great Off Topic Forum Purge of 2006. These things happen. Be strong. You will get through this crisis. One day at a time.

Yes, I lost about 300 or 400 too. And it is nice that you mention a word like crisis in this topic. Because I have to say that it is a strange feeling when seeing that you lost posts. the first thing I had in mind: I wrote crap. (sometimes yes. lol)
I remember that I once asked you Thomas why some of my posts got deleted. You responded something like Jason...this was a smooth feeling though. =)

It is also right that many people know you because you have many many posts...but do they know you really by your count or by post quality? (When saying quality it doesn`t mean that it is high-quality.)
I mean, Stu has over 4000 posts...but then again he doesn`t post here at the moment. However, he is a very well-known guy here...because he is such a nice person and wrote very valuable stuff. I hope that he will return one day.

But my favourite example is Jazzgregg (Gregg): Does he have soo many posts? maybe, maybe not...but that doesn`t matter. I think everybody out there respects him very much (sometimes I`m kinda afraid how true and how bombing his posts will be :-D). His knowledge is amazing and his posts are true, like a true punch in your face. This definitly shows for me that the topic post count isn`t very important.

After my three month break a while back I did notice that my post count decreased. I didn't care though. I like looking at my post count to see how often I'm on DW. I like thinking "Wow. I'm on here a lot!" As Karl said its about quality not quantity.

I dont have the highest count out there, but ive been here for ages, and I like to think that I post good stuff.

I always give advice to people when I think I have something valuable to share.

And I dont care how many posts I have, I often just read threads without posting, just to soak up the good vibes.

lol I was just gonna keep that as a joke but I've got something to say....

When there was a thread about favourite members or posts you like to read... it was nothing to do with post count, just what you like to expect when you see their posts. I don't look at post count on a member, it's irrelevant. Everyone started somewhere.

I guess I'll ditto what drummerchick said, just like it to remind me I'm on a lot.

I think I missed out on this purge (2006 was a rather dark age for me), what happened? Just lots of spammy threads?

The Great Off Topic Forum Purge of 2006. Ah yes, I remember the heroism displayed by the senior members as they aided each other through that great crisis. Those were trying times.

I am amazed how many people actually care about post counts. To me, if your post counts are in the stratosphere, it means you're not playing enough.

I feel some of this has to due with the summer weather and activities it brings. I live in Ohio and we are having the best weather from spring to this writing that I can remember. Usually in Ohio we have what we call hazy hot and cloudy weather all spring and summer. Then about 6 months of yucky winter. I have not been on the computer or even drumming as much as I normally do. Its just too nice out side. I even thought of taking my Ludwig's out to my in-laws 100 acres and setting the kit up by the lake for a photo shot and even bang on them in the woods to wake the gods....

In my humble opinon.. I think it would be beneficial to the forum if the post counts disappeared. I just don't see the point in them. Really, what is the point? If they were gone, I think it could be beneficial to the forum. I am in no way suggesting this or criticizing DrummerWorld in any fashion. I am only giving my thoughts.

I listed the Pro's and Con's of having a post count, and I came up with more Con's than Pro's. Anyone else try this?

Care to share them with us?

The only con I can think of is that some members pick on those with a smaller post count than them - but even that doesnt happen often.

Con's: of having a post count.

The one you mentioned.
Meaningless posts to rack up count.
Meaningless threads to rack up count.
Can encourage trolling.
Members feeling superior toward others based on number of posts. Seen it before.
Post counts being the topic of threads such as this one.
Unwarranted justification of breaking or challenging rules.
Too much worrying about the count instead of quality of posts/threads.

Pro's: of having a post count.

Can't think of any.

Con's: of getting rid of it.

Can't think of any.

Pro's: of getting rid of it.

Would probably cut down on meaninless post/threads.
Caliber of meaningful and informative discussion would proabably rise and be more visible as a whole.

Just my opinion on the matter. Doesn't make it fact.
