Yamaha Bamboo Snare. Has anyone heard it?

I love the warm low tones the best and heard about Yamaha's bamboo snare. It looks tasty. Has anyone had a chance to listen to it? I'm interested in how it compares to the copper and aluminum ( cast and otherwise ) snares.

I' ve heard both the Yamaha and dw Bamboo snare. I love them both. The yamaha actually sounded good. But deep down i couldent ignore the dw, they were both 14x5 but i think the dw quality stands out over all.

Nice drum though!!

I've never heard one, but I'd like to. Bamboo sounds like it would make a great material and it grows almost everywhere.

But I like anything that's different than the maple/birch/mahogany humdrum of drums.

i didn't even know yamaha had a bamboo snare. where did you find it?

Several years ago at the NAMM show I got to check out the Yamaha bamboo's and they were impressive. I think it was the 2003 NAMM. Got to talk with one of the Yamaha builders and he said bamboo was extremely hard to work with. They were very proud of their snare. I believe they are discontinued now, as TopCat said, and they sell on eBay for about twice what they retailed for (if my recollection recollects).

I owned a 6.5x14 yamaha bamboo for a while (sold it to help fund a second kit). Beautiful snare... dark and warm tone with pretty good crack to it. It was a very nice snare. Yamaha no longer makes them and as said above, they sell on ebay for a pretty big dollar amount. I almost kept it as a collectors item, but it just didn't knock me out enough to keep it. Instead, I kept my 6.5x14 Manu Katche signature (seamless). I have not heard the DW bamboo, so I can't comment on that one.

Haven't heard or seen that thing in a long time. A store near me had one in stock but the next day I went back to pick up some stuff, it was gone. Sounded AMAZING! A real beaut.

Snagged one a few weeks ago here in Japan . 5.5x14 and near mint . Wonderful drum .
