Default How can I get a ringy sound out of my Musashi?

Hello,

I've a Musashi snare and I would like to know what head should I put to get a strong ring when hitting near the center of the drum. I've tried the Coated Ambassador and the Emperor X and am not quite satisfied with the sound so far. Although I prefer the Emperor X.

Of course I can hit further from the center but is there no other way to get a strong ring?

you wont get a ring from a Emperor X, thsoe are some thick heads

your best bet is to try a singleply head with a powerdot and tune that med-tight and the reso tight and a good snare level to get a ring

Just checked their website. Isn't this head supposed to muffle the ring?

Sorry but maybe the thread title confused me,

If you want good amount of overtone from your musashi then Aquarian Satin Finish texture coated is a good option but you'll get the best of it if you try the Modern vintage.

Remo Ambs or Evans G1 or J1 will do the same trick.

Perhaps it's me, but I haven't found a way to NOT get a strong ring out of my Musashi snare. At most any tuning range, the things has overtone for days.

Use a single ply head of any persuasion (i.e. Evans G1, Remo Ambassador), crank it up a bit, and use a rim shot in the middle of the head. For extra ring, again use a rim shot but instead of hitting the bead of the stick in the middle of the drum, strike the edge of the head. What I mean by this is, line up your stick at 8 o' clock on the drum but straighten your stick out so that the bead points upwards and towards your rack toms.

Please do not use a thicker head (i.e. Emperor-X, etc.) as these are the anti-thesis of what you're aiming for.

Good luck.
cheers.

I put an Evans Genera HD dry on mine with a Hazy 300 and it sounds great.
