Default 1 tom - 2 floors

Can you post some setups with one front tom, then a ride over bass and two floors (suspended or standing), possibly with an auxiliary snare?

This is my kit some time ago. I had a 10" tom so I put it up.

I'll post my set later; I think it's a very comfy and functional setup. Anyone disagree?

Does anyone use a pair of 8-10" toms up front instead of the single 12" ? Post em plz.

Here's the 8" and 10" racks + two floors.

I'd left out my usual 12" to allow a better ride placement.

How do you feel about two toms up front, left to the bass (like seen above)? Doesn't it push the HH way of to the left?

I've tried a 10-12" like that and had to spread my feet so much that I quickly left the 10" out. Wondering if the 8-10" combo is still so encumbering.

Well, actually I have only played with the set-up as seen below only for 15 minutes, because my neighbor called me on the phone to ask me to stop. he had to read a story to his son, and the drums were to loud :-). So, I stopped.
So far it's a bit odd to have the HH where it is, but I really love the 12" in front of me for fills. It gives me the same feeling as when I play a 4 piece at a friend of mine.

Hi hat comfort depends on just where you place the left tom.
I normally use 3 rack toms, so the left hand one is necessarily well left of the bass drum, but is in a line with the other two rack toms and not pushed forward.

My hi hat stays close to the edge of the snare, no problems.

is it me or does this set-up give a lot more versatility (is that a correct word) for fills and such?
I finally am really in love with my drums, just as someone else already said the ride is in the place it is intended to be, and I love the 'breaking' of the line of toms..

It IS much more versatile cos it enhances open handed fills. No need to roll from tom to tom with both hands.

I originally had a 12 and 13 over the bass and a 16 inch floor.

i took the 13 off, and bought a 14 floor tom. it was like playing a brand new set.
i have a lot more range in sound, and it feels like i always have somewhere to go if i run out of room with my fills.

pcmckay,
I just love that green Ludwig set. Everytime you post a pic of it , I can't help just staring at it. I bet it sounds as good as it looks.

My mapex has been set up like that recently. Right now its in cases for gigs and kind of all over the place but its set up 10,12 on the left side 14,16 on the bottom. My maple snare is the main one with a Ludwig acrolite as a secondary. I love my kit but I still wish in a way I had gotten the rock kit with 13, 16 and 18 floor toms. But I certainly wouldn't like transporting the 24x18 bass that came with such a kit. The 22x18 is hard enough...

Here's mine at a recent wedding dance/keg party.

First time I had ever set it up like this at a gig, and probably the third time ever it had been this way.

The snare drum's sound got compliments from the handful of drummers in the crowd as well as a couple people who weren't musicians at all. (12x7 BP cherry over maple)

I've since added an 18" UFIP Class crash, so pretend that's in the front over the 12" tom.
