Default My brand new TRUTH custom kit!!

Me and Geoff (Owner of TCD) have been working on my kit for awhile, and it is finally finished! Im so happy, I haven't 'full-on' played drums in over 2 months, and now I have the most amazing sounding and looking kit I have ever heard/played. It is a definite plus to actually be able to go to the shop and see the process of Truth's drum building, and let me say, IMO is far superior than any other custom company. Truth focuses on aesthetics, which is one of the main problems that other custom companys have; they lose focus of it. The bearing edges are perfect, as well as everything else. Anyway, here are some pictures of the kit, I'll have more with the full set-up very soon. Oh..and the Hybrid sounds amazing!

1) Specs. 2nd oldest rule in the book.

2) Congratulations, you got a drumkit from Truth that doesn't look like a cartoon. I usually hate the new-gen custom drum companies because they make their drums look corny and unprofessional, but your kit is very sleek and classy. Plus, the hybrid snare looks tight.

... However, I disagree with their focus on aesthetics. Drums are not meant to be works of art. They're musical instruments.

Thank you for the responses, but a few things..

1. Alex Rodriguez is endorsed by Shine now, not Truth.
2. When I say 'Aesthetics', I mean their process of drum building, to the sanding, the edges and everything else. I did not mean the way they look.
3. The reason I didn't choose a "cartoon" looking kit is obvious; I know i'll get tired of looking at it, and I wanted the kit to be versatile, not limiting me to one kind of music.

Thank you again for the responses, hope you all understand what Im trying to say..Now for the specs..

All 6-ply Maple shells

13x7 (10-ply) Hybrid snare
12x7 tom
14x12 floor
16x14 floor
20x20 kick

I love the sizes, they all mesh very well together, and the double grommets give the drums a little more volume.

Not to start an argument, but aesthetics is the study of what the mind determines as "beautiful" -- so in a drum context, I would assume the aesthetics of drums would be the elements of drums that are artistically beautiful. Maybe it would be more appropriate to say that Truth focuses on excellent craftmanship? It sure as hell looks like it.

Anyway, are you a fan of shallower toms? I noticed some of the depth sizes and I was a little curious. But I love that snare and bass. That 20x20 must be nice and punchy. Can't wait to see these set up, especially with some nice bronze.

Is that snare wood/acrylic? Very interesting. I'd love to hear it. Love the flat black and the tubes.

Nice kit. I've never heard of Truth before but it looks like they make great drums. What sort of cymbals do you have?

Very nice looking kit. I also have a 20x20 kick, they sound great!
Post some more pics when they are all set up.
Karl-"Hybrid" is when you combine two different elements, such as wood and acryllic
or like in golf a 3 wood and a 3 iron...

now I can explain many those hybrid things by myself.

er...so K Custom Hybrid actually means that you combine brilliant and natural finish in one cymbal?

Exactly! Another "hybrid" you should've heard of is hybrid-motors like in the Toyota Prius combining a petrol engine with an electric motor.

Anyways, very nice kit. I like the sophisticated looks.

Truth drums are really popular among christian rock bands, and i have seen them sooo many times and played on them a little too. They sound fantastic, and can do some visually stunning work (although some of it is kinda corny, i agree with that). They also record very well. Great little company.

Really beautiful drums. Black just looks so sharp and classy. But usually it's a shiny wrap. Don't see many black wood finishes, and that one is outstanding!. Can't wait to see the set-up. DROOOOL!!

Thank you all so much for the responses! They're greatly appreciated. I am a fan of shallower toms, the 12x7 was a little different to tune, that one inch difference between the 12x8 actually makes a difference, but I've gotten it to sound really good. I wanted to steer away from wraps, so I got a black satin stain, the stain is not as heavy, so in person you can see a lot of the grain in the wood, which I personally love. The kick is very punchy and loud, and with the hybrid you can actually hear the qualitys of both the acrylic and the maple.

Congrats on the new Truths! They look awesome and that hybrid snare must be killer.

I would say that the newer custom companies make cartoonish drums simply becuase the custom wants cartoonish drums, not because the company likes making cartoonish drums (maybe they do.)

dannyrests... your kit is sooo sexy. the snare is by far the most beautiful snare I have ever set my eyes on (ok, I only look at drums for half a year now, but still), and the kit is just perfect the way it looks. knowing that it is a custom set and you have decided what sizes you wanted and all I bet it will sound great aswell. Now only the request for you to put some photo's in this thread with all your stuff set-up :-).

dude, i really love the kit. I would have gone for different colors, maybe green sparkle. but your right, cartoon kits suck. so nothing that bright.

Its set-up! Yes, im back in a garage..oh well. I like them flat, no reason other than the fact it feels good and its the most comfortable to me, so I don't want to hear any crap. Im happy, but I still feel incomplete..I still need to purchase all new stands (including hi-hat) and pedals. For now, I am borrowing from a friend that is endorsed by DW and gets all his PDP hardware for free; hence the PDP..enjoy.

Cymbal set-up: All Zildjian..

14" A mastersound hats
18" A custom fast crash
19" A custom crash
21" A sweet ride (Now being returned for a 21" A medium ride)
18" Oriental china trash

I completely feel you on the flat tom angles. Ever since I started using them, I've felt a lot more comfortable around the toms. My only honest complaint is that pdp throne -- I've tried those out before and they feel so AWFUL to me! When I went to buy my new throne, I was testing out the exact same one, and I expecting it to have some give, but when I sat down on it I stopped right in my place -- felt like there was a rock under the fabric. Of course, if you like it.. that's all that matters.. but when I come to steal your kit, I'm gonna leave that thing behind. :P

damn, thats a nice kit. how much did the shells run ya? with those A's they look even better. I think im gonna try the flat toms, i just have to get a mount to get them off the bass drum.

looks kinda similar to alex's old kit from saosin. I think his sold for 1600 on ebay but it was heavily used. i'd love to hear that snare.

cheers.

Nice kit, never heard of Truth drums before but they look - and with those sizes must sound great. I have very similar sizes on my Mapex Pro M and I love the sound and flexibility that the depth (or lack of) that the toms give you.

Interested in the sound that the hybrid gives you, seen them before - never heard them

If I ever go custom I'll keep near to the sizing I've got.

Default congrats!

your kit is very, very nice, dannyrests. extremely nice.
i love the sizes and the finish, and i think it sounds great, too.

one question: what kind of floortomlegs (and rims) do you use? it's not gauger, isn't it?
i'm very interested.

Thank you for the extended responses..The tom mount is just the standard DSS isolation mount and the floor tom is just your standard cradle..I got the bulky DW memory locks that go on the legs so I didn't have to eyeball them everytime I set-up but unfortunatley the DW legs are a little bigger than the standard (Should've known..) So im looking for any kind of 3/8" mem. locks. I was going to go with the actual DW style bracket but I didn't think it was worth it for an extra 20 bucks or so, when I could get the Gibraltar mount for free. I'll be upgrading to all DW hardware soon, and maybe when I get around to get I'll get the bracket. Im a big fan of the cradles, I like them a lot. I also upgraded all the drums with double-wide nylon washers, they're great..they stay in tune better, and are easier to tune. And yes the PDP throne is possibly the worst thing ever.

Heres some pics...

Double-wide washers..

The infamous lug-lockers, I thought the nylon washers would keep them from coming loose when rim-shotting...buuut they didn't.

You can barely see it but I put them in the diecast claws as well..

Absolutely beautiful drums, only one bad thing about them.

They look to be in your basement or garage. Something that beautiful should be right in the middle of your living room where everyone who comes in the house has to walk past them first!

Those are really unique, you should be very proud of those bad-boys!
