Default awesome Jeff Ochletree "Phantom" snare

Hi everyone,

i recently had the pleasure of playing the most awesome snare i've ever played in my life. :D
unfortunately, it's not mine :(

it's a Jeff Ocheltree "Phantom" . Modern Cast (one piece no welds)14x6.5 Carbon Steel (nickel).
It weighed in at about 14kg's and had such a huge sound.

I've never played, or even seen, any of Jeff Ocheltree's drums before this, but after playing this one, i'm definately gonna be on the lookout!!!

You can hear it on the tracks "Negative" and "Elevate" on my bands Myspace site.

I think Steve Smith used the Phantom snare for his History of the US beat
DVD.

Awsome sounding snare.

Steve Smith did indeed use a steel Phantom snare for most of the DVD.

Hi jAZZpLANTS,

hmm i don't think so, but maybe similar? i'm not too sure.. i think they'd say it was a 'phantom' if it was one.

either way though, that seems like a good buy to me!! we don't get too much access to custom drums here. i'd never even heard of Jeff Ochletree's drums until a friend said, "you gotta try this drum", so i'm certainly no expert. someone else might be able to shed some more light on the subject.

cheers for listening and the comment on the band.. greatly appreciated! i'll check you guys out when i'm on a better internet connection.

I am very interested in owning an ocheltree snare, the carbon steel model seems to be especially well priced for a custom drum. And who could make a better drum than the man behind John Bonham's kit in the 70s, and Danny Carey's cast drums from Lateralus? The guy is a legend...

i didn't realise that's what danny used on Lateralus.. i'm guessing that's the kit in the Danny video here on Drummerworld? it's a beast .. must weigh a tonne!
