this is a digital sampling software that allows you to slow down a recording w/o dropping the pitch, perfect for transcribing: http://www.nch.com.au/twelvekeys/index.html i had to download this software in order to convert music from a cd into a compatible format for 12keys: http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html enjoy. |

I think you can only do it on windows media with the actual cd, not sure it does it with mp3's, or maybe it's the other way around.
I know there were a few times when I could not get the slider to come up but not the exact instances. |

View>enhancements>play speed settings works for .wma and .mp3 audio at least, as well as .wmv video |

I found Audacity to be very useful as well. If you download the version with the effects and have a LAME encoder on your PC (should be in every good codec pack such as K-Lite) you can import MP3s, change the speed and altitude of the notes independently along with many other effects, you can record, cut, record a second track above the first and so on and it's FREE! I do all my recordings with this programme.
Edit:It's available for MAC as well!

Useful then, as most of use here aren't sound engineers. |

I do photography in college,an after years of using a PC at home,MACs just freak me out!! it can be horribly awkward..but once you get used to a MAC they can be so much nicer!! I also hate windows....especially since XP....98' was good!but then they had to totally control what we did!!! |

open windows media and start playing a song. Then click on now playing in the upper left,
there is a small arrow indicating a drop down menu right under now playing, choose enhancements, then choose play speed settings. A slider should come up and you can speed it down. This is the newest version of media so yours may be a little different. I just did it with an mp3 song so I guess they are good to go. |

I can't even tell the difference between 98 and XP, lol. They haven't done anything to their system in over a decade.
