Default Chain or Nylon Strap

First things first,

Did a search, couldn't find anything. If I missed it, please forward me to the right spot.

I was wondering what the Benefits to a Nylon strap are?

I have a DW 9002 Double Kick, with the dual chain drive.

Does anyone play with the nylon strap? If so, what do you guys prefer with it, rather than the chain. Is it worth it to try it out?

Ryan

I have three pedals, A Taye, a DW, and a Vexdrums double, and they all have chains. I grew up using this old product called "leather" and had a fit every time it broke. Other than being lighter weight, and I haven't played a plastic strap, I can't think of any advantages to a strap.

Double chains all the way. When I first started drumming. Chains were really rare. And yea when the leather breaks during a gig, Its a pain to fix. Pearl Eliminators. But since they are old and starting to wear at the hinge Looking at new ones. And im sure impressed by the new tayes stuff.

I have a TAMA Iron Cobra Hihat with the strap. It think I get a little more feel with the strap. Thats about it. The straps now days are more durable than the chains are, BTW.

Thanks

I think I'll just at least try it out, my pedals came with both.

I can believe that.

I've used all of them and I don't notice much difference. Chains look cooler, but nobody else can see your pedals anway. Chains need occasional oiling and they are dirtier and vulnerable to dust, with dozens of moving parts exposed.

There's also direct drive, like the Speed King, where there's a rod or link.

Please post your experience with the strap. I've just recently picked up the 9002 and was wondering about the strap drive myself.

I would be open to all of them, strap, chain and dual chain. Right now I am using single chain with my Juniors. but staps aren't all that bad, I had to use pedals for 6 years with 20year old straps and they never broke once. But for more serious heavy duty pedals (such as 9000's or Iron Conra, even though the cobras could come with straps), I would use chain, seems like it would be better suited for the cause. Even though you have to oil and keep them clean. Just in case, that would be pretty bad. Being in an awesome show and then having your strap break right in the middle. Wouldn't want that to happen!

Peace

Well the feel between strap and chain can be way different for some people. I felt a dramatic change between them after years of use.

Peace

Whe the drum is miked up, you can hear the chain. It is a little thing, I know, but the strap doesn't make any noise.

I've tried both and I think the strap gives you a smoother feel. Not as smooth as direct drive though, which I really think is the way to go.

A drummer I know who is in the august years of his life says that he plays only leather straps. He says they have a little give which he feels is more organic , especially playing jazz. Also that little bit of give is much kinder to his knees compared to the chain and kevlar/nylon straps of today.

Chains are too fast. Yes too fast,, i like a bit of give,,i have 2 peddles with both chains, and i long for my strap,,think i will change it back. I feel the peddle more with a strap,,and yes they do rattle...
