Yeah, me too! These drums Ido believe are better drums than last years model.
they have 10 lugs on the bass. the tom holder may be a smidge different. this finish is not a wrap. these pictures don't do the finish it's "justice" so to speak. they really are spectacular looking drums in person!

I like the finish. There is something about a sparkle finish that looks so cool. Nice kit. How do the EC2's sound with birch? How big is that bass? Again, nice kit and congratulations.

Amazing kit. I just bought one in Diamond Dust.
I wanted the red sparkle fade, but some of the drum sizes I wanted would take 6 months to get from Tama, so I went with the Diamond Dust. The pictures do not do the finish justice. It is a truly beautiful finish! Congrats on a fine purchase!! And yes, how do you like the EC2s? I didn't like them on my Sonor kit except for on my 16 and 18. However that was a maple kit. They choked the hell out of my 8 and 10. Also, what snare are you using? Last edited by mikei; 02-07-2007 at 01:21 AM. |

The drums were set up in Guitar center for a couple of weeks while I decided whether or not to wait on the Grestch kit I had on order ( some of you may rember that) it was gonna be Catalina ash kit, it was just taking to long for what i felt mite be a dissappointing wait.
Then I was maybe goin' with a Ddrum Dominion Ash kit but that was gonna be close to impossible to get anytime soon also, or the color (walnut) I wanted. All the while I had my I on this tama kit inthe store, well my guy said screw everything else I'll give ya adeal on it, just take the F'er home today! And thats what I did. here are the specs. 8x10 9x12 12x14 floor w/legs (not my choice) 18x22 bass $1200 out the door with new heads My sales guy already changed the heads to ec2 when I came back to pick the drums up. I would of preferred G2's only cause I read Fat Elvis said thats the best combo g1/g2 for his birch kit, so I'll probably switch. I could'nt beat that price since I was going to pay $1000 for the Ddrum kit. Oh and Mikei, I love your daimond dust finish, and you kinda inspired me on this kit!

The snare is a Luddy 5.5x14 bronze w/ die cast hoops that I added, makes a hugh difference in the tuning of this drum!

Elvis inspired me to get this kit. I couldn't be happier!
I wonder if die cast on a supraphonic would make a difference. Did you buy that snare at GC? They had some luddie snares on sale last week for like 150 bucks! I would have bought one, but my wife would have divorced me for sure. You will love the kit. Mine came with G2 over G1s. I love them on all but the 8 and 10. I will probably change my 8 and 10 to G1 over G1s. Congratulations! |

I've been playing this ride since 1989, no really almost 20 yrs, and it's really like best all around ride for almost all applications. It's definately best for rock, nice clean articulate bell, not to washy for srtate ahead patterns on the bow, and can't beat the brilliant finish!

I just saw Brann Dailor playing that kit at the Mastodon show over the weekend and it looked killer under the lights. They have one at the local drum shop with a 26" bass drum and it is so cool. I really like your kit man.....very cool!

I had the 22 A custom Ping ride. Great ride. I recently sold it and bought a 22 paragon. Very similar, but the paragon has a drier sound with less over tones.

Thanx for the great feed back guys!
Mikei- My next ride i'm lookin' at rite now is a sabian 21" raw bell dry ride, it's killer! I can get it out the door for $150 it lists for $288. Karl- I really love this finish, some how they got this sparkle to fade to black so evenly it's flawless. And the bass drum is like a bazooka blast it's awsome! oh........I live in Plainfield Illinios U.S.A Solaris- I've always liked smaller cymbals, I have lots of splashes (not on this kit) the 14" AA studio cash is my favorite.I use the 18"/ 14" combo, the difference in tone is very substantional.

I've now changed my heads on this kit from Ec2 to G2's. I'm not exactly getting the sound I expected out of the toms. my next move is straight hydraulics. any suggestions!

you may need to specify more the sound you want (in relation to what you got from EC2s and G2s) to get good suggestions. it seems a little strange that you changed directions - from EC2s (dampened) to G2s (more open) to the hydraulics that you want (very dampened)
great looking kit by the way, haven't seen many laquer sparkle fades (i guess it'd have to be a laquer to be a fade, but you get the idea)

It's wierd, even though I like a controlled dampened sound better, the G2's to me sound BETTER, but it's not the sound I'm lookin' for. From past experiences the hydro's always seem to work for me.
