Default DW (new stuff & new photos), Paiste + other stuff !

Hello everyone,

I play drums:

I've added a 14"x5" DW Snare (10+6), lowered my ride cymbal (feels much better), and traded in my Paiste 10" Rude splashes for the new Paiste Alpha 10" Mini Hats.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Photos from a recent show I played with two other drummers (Chris Cawthray & Derek Thorne):

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh yeah:

I'm in this months Drums ETC (Canadian Drum Magazine). Feel free to pick up a copy at your local music store :D

That performance was our first time playing together. The show was set-up in a casual manner; I played a set of my ostinato based compositions and then Chris had played an improvised set. Afterwards, Derek (the percussionist) came on stage and we played an improvised piece. We had planned out some themes beforehand, and the rest was just made up.

It was FUN (it was a benefit show, the cans we obtained from admission went towards helping out the less fortunate). We'll be doing it again sometime.

It sure looks like fun. Got any room for another percussionist? ;-)

Again, I love the configuration of your set up. Nice kit too.

Good luck with everything.

Karl,

You know, it depends on what I'm playing but I generally prefer a small kit to a large kit. In a band situation (jazz, or music that doesn't require a lot), I'll just use a kick, snare, two toms (or less) and 2 cymbals.

Max

Very cool! Two questions though:

What is the furthest left pedal attached to? The very small kick drum? Sample pad?

And secondly, why did you trade the 10" rude splashes for 10" alpha hats? You could have used the splashed as 10" hats anyway!

The pedal on the far left is apart of the DW 5520 Dual Accessory Hi-Hat Stand. Instead of mounting an item that is typically used (ie cowbell) I decided to copy an idea from Marco Minnemann/Terry Bozzio and mount a DW 8"x2" Piccolo Tom. Works well & sounds great!

I was using the Rude Splashes as hi-hats originally, and I found there wasn't enough definition or attack. When I traded them in, I actually got some money back because the Alpha Mini-Hats are cheaper (and, in my opinion sound much better). I managed to find a pair of used Paiste 12" Micro-Hats at my local music store, which I have put on hold (simply due to the condition alongside the price (more than 50% off)).

I never picked up the grammatical error. Oh well...

That gig was played at a large, beautiful church. Wow - it looked great and the acoustics were amazing! I have never heard my bass drum "BOOM" so much. Chris (the other drummer) brought along his first drum-kit (which is very old, but sounds great) and some vintage Paiste cymbals. Derek sounded great, as well.

Now that I've finished talking about how good it sounded; check out their websites (and hear those two guys play!):

Really nice kit man, I love that finnish.
If it was my kit i'd have to tear off that 8" tom, i really feel that DW lugs look ridiculous on smaller toms, but hey thats just me.

Dw and paiste is a good combo! If i had that many toms, i would also choose the out of order setup! it makes for for some cool tom beats and fills.

Yes! On my older kit, I had the toms arranged: 12", 10" & 14". I like the mis-matched placement more than a traditional placement.

Really nice looking kit. Bet it sounds great. I'm just wondering why you have multiple chinas? I've never been a big china fan, but I suppose one is good. What's your motivation of having 3?

whoa, would u like some drums with your 5,000 pedals? just kidding :) I like the kinish a lot. As for the pedals, i dont know how you could not get confused on which to use (im more of a simple kit guy)
Kit wise, I think everything looks very nice. You must be a very good drummer. I look forward to a sound clip from you :)

Very nice set up! Not far from my ideal tom set up either, haha. I love your multipedal orchestration. (: Which Headhunters are those? I use the Maple C's which I like a lot, unfortunately I can't get them anywhere near me. and how does that Rude China sound?
