http://www.paiste.com/products/cymbals/twenty_main.php I can't wait til they get the sound clips posted and these start hitting the stores. The ride seems like it would be very nice. I also think that these will either be at or near 2002 prices based on this link. They are pictured right beside the 2002 series. http://www.paiste.com/products/cymbals/ Let the reviews begin! Theres a new vid on the website of them being played but to be honest the video sound is awful! Not the cymbal sound but the just the video itself

Yeah, the video is horrible quality.
There is a link to download the video on the cymbalholic.com forum. I wish they would have muted his snare a little more for the video. I could care less about this guys drumming. I just want to hear the twenty cymbals! |

i also im awaiting these. And if they are, in fact, priced close to the 2002's (like they have the positioned on the website), then i am awaiting them with even more urgency.

I just saw them at NAMM and they really impressed me. They have very deep lathing which is a first for Paiste in the upper lines. The labels look awesome up close, and the circular tone grooves make them have a kind of vintage vibe and feel with some really cool modern sounds thrown in to the mix. I was playing around with the 16" crash which is a fairly thin cymbal along the lines of the Sig series, and I was amazed at the clarity and attack it had to contrast the overall warm sound. The chinas looked and sounded really great as did all of the cymbals I messed with, except the hi-hats which were too thin and mushy feeling for my taste. They are all made from Turkish B20 bronze, hence the name.
When I first walked up and saw all of the huge displays at the booth this year, my heart sunk and my first thought was "Oh *$!% they didn't drop the 2002 line did they?" So I went up and asked a rep and he got all excited and said "Noooooo, of course not". He said that they have big plans for the 2002 line. That made me feel alot better so I greeted the twenty's with opens arms after that lol. He said that they will have a 5% higher list price than the 2002's. Think Dimensions-meets-Signature, plus heavy circular tone grooves and a bit of old-school 602 and Sound Formula soul mixed in, and you have the Paiste Twenty. Love the look, concept and sound. Paiste has nailed every single product that they throw into the high-priced bracket, and this new line is no exception.

Sounds good. I cant wait for them to expand the line with some more intresting ideas. Louder crashes would be nice.

If you go to ecymbals.co.uk you can see the prices and they cost WAY too much. They are closer to the Signature line than the 2002 (in terms of price) which is very disappointing. Almost £265 for a 20'' ride? Don't think so somehow...
Stupid Paiste, always too expensive. I'm in a huff now... |

The problem is I have yet to discover what distinguishes these from the cheaper Bosphorus and Sabian cymbals. Paiste has always been expensive in the US and while these seem to be the best sounding Paistes I ever heard, I'm not sure they would be worth the extra money. Not a lot of places carry Paiste around here either. Anything other than Zildjian A Customs are hard to find. Going by the sound files alone (which have proven accurate for Paiste cymbals in the past) they don't sound that much different from those heard from Sabian HH or Bosphorus Masters/Traditional. Of course how much more variety can you get on a b20 cymbal? It seems strange that they don't offer more weight options. So far they have only one option for each type of cymbal. I just can't imagine Paiste 20s being a big success especially if they are going to have the high price typical of most of their cymbals. But I suppose if you live where you can get Paistes on a regular basis and for less money then these seem to be a great choice.

Wow. The china and splash both sound incredible. I wasn't blown away by the hats, but we'll see. Paiste makes incredible stuff. I am very eager to hear the ride.

The 14" hi-hats sound nice!
The warm tone of these seems kind of in between the New Sig Dark Energy and the Sig Dark Crisp. Sam Ash is selling these for $324.99 which puts these higher than 2002 and Bosphorus hats. |

My Turk hats for $321 so it's not too far off, but then again I don't know too much about their price ranges yet.

I was suprised at how thick the 20's are. I thought they would've gone for a different, washier vibe with these. The crashes sounded strange to me on their own, but I'm sure the way they mix all together and project to the audience is a different experience. I thought the ride sounded pretty good. It had that Paiste zing to it. That's cool and all, but I didn't see as much of the "normal" B20 character, and they're definetely nothing like a 602. Weird cymbals, man.

Yeah, the consensus has been that the crashes are way too thick but that the hats sound good. I would have bought a set of the hats had I not bought a set of Meinl Byzance hats.
I have heard mixed reviews on the ride. I think the sound files of the ride sound OK. I would rather have a New Sig Dark Energy MKII ride myself but that's just me. I think Paiste needs to back up and rethink this Twenty series and realize they don't need to go after the rockers and make thick crashes. They ought to make ligher crashes and rides and cater to the pop and jazzers. Take a lesson from Meinl Byzance since they have had a lot of success with their jazz series. Just my two cents. |

One reason for the price is that Sabian is buying the ingots, the discs, from Turkey and then pressing them to size. The first step is done by probably cheaper labor and maybe the bronze is cheaper that way. Just a guess.

maybe paiste is just trying to make a Paiste point ( as opposed to really trying to make and sell a good B20 pie) ... the Paiste point being " see this no good B20 here... we told you it's no good before and that B8 is better and now we're proving it ...and it even costs less to make so those other companies are ripping you off..... So There!
