Rogers XP-8 Drums Anygood?

I saw some Rogers XP-8 drums on ebay that looked nice. Any thoughts on these drums?

Certainly those are good shells. Sellers opinion that they're the best sounding shells Rogers made is just that, his opinion. Certainly, script logo shells are more desireable to collectors and go for more money. Some people love the sound of the big R, some don't. If you plan on restoring the kit, that's a whole bunch of Rogers parts you still need to buy. That's gonna get costly. If you have a Rogers donor kit already, sweet. Any other brand, always a chance that holes will have to be filled and new holes drilled for lugs and spurs and floor tom leg mounts. Just looking at the price it's sitting at, nobody rides for free.

XP-8's are Great drums. Mist blue would be 79-82 and is a great color. It is not easy to find add on drums if you are looking for them later. I would advise a black or white set (tons of that stuff). It looks like he has parted out some of the stuff and you are going to be in for a long restore job and will still be missing the dyna-sonic snare. I would buy a complete Kit.

Here are some pic's of my set. I am the original owner and they have been cared for very well. I have a Sonor S Class Pro kit that I love, but the Rogers will hold their own.

XP8 are great drums. I have three of the dynasonic maple snares from the XP8 era, one COB dynasonic from 1977, and a set of XP8 drums that have been restored. Those wraps are no longer availabe, but theres a lot of nice stuff out there to work with. Secondly if you are doing a restoration, its going to cost. You would be better served by finding some old fart thats quit playing, was anal about the care of his stuff, and still has it. lt would also help if he sells cheap. But there are good almost showroom quality kits out there. you dont need to buy crap.

Samf -- WOW.....and a pair of Verisonic sticks as well!!! haven't seen those in a long time.

i gotta get my 1978 Rogers kit torn apart and clean it up. just don't have the time and extra bucks to do it at the moment.

I guess I am the old fart who was anal about my Rogers. I am 42 and may hair is gone and my eyes are going as well. (LOL). Ploughman yes I am old but in my will I have aksed to be burried in my Mist Blue XP8 Bass Drum..... So these are not for Sale. You are right about the wrap not being available. I even went so far as to research "Cortex" and found it is nothing more than Formica. And yes Formica made wraps back in the day but to order that color it is a $5000.00 min.

BTW very nice job on the re-covering of your set. I love the green (My Sonor set is Emerald Green). Very nice set and its always great to keep the Rogers name going.

I am surprised you picked up on the Verisonics... They still make them and are on the web. Great people who fill orders fast and more colors now. Great sticks for a very bright clean sound on a ride cymbal. I would not suggest them for Metal Players.

I am older than you. And I sill have my first Rogers set, a 1977 Big R in Silver Metallic. 24-13-16-18. with the 8x14 Dynasonic in maple.

Thats funny. For the first 25 years, I had one drumset.

I was sorry to see this kid buy these shells. With the amount hes going to spend on a restoration, he could have picked up a really nice set, from any era.

My dad has a set of XP-8's and they sound great,if you can get them for a good price i'd go for it.

Gotta love the Sliver mist, and with an 18 floor to boot. All I need is an 8" and 18" and my quest is over. Very nice collection. I don't understand why e-bay sellers take sets and break em down and part them out. I understand if the set is in bad shape and you a saving the good parts, but those shells were very clean and he had other parts listed that I would bet came off that set. It is a shame.

Money, its all about money.
Its their drum, to do with as they choose. Ive seen a lot of stuff pass by on ebay in the last 7 years. And its amazing to see sets not as old as mine thoroughly thrashed.

The green glitter set, is XP8 shells. The swivo hardware cost me.......another 300.00. And I bought very responsibly. Ive got 200.00 in wrap, Ive got 300 in the shells. Probably another hundred in hoops and tension rods, they were new. The snare is a slingerland, it was another hundred, so total...... my restoration, 900.00 including the snare drum, aproximately.
