Default changing cymbal setup... need opinions

I currently changed from my country band to a fairly heavy rock band...

I am currently playing a
17" aax studio
19" a- custom projection
18" aaxplosion

the projection and aaxplosion are doing fine...but the studio is lacking....I need suggestions for a 3rd crash.

what are you guys thoughts?????

16" AAX Stage Crash, 16" Dark Crash are both excellent cymbals for the aax line.

For a dark one I can recommend an AAX Dark Crash and for a brighter sound maybe an AAX Bright Crash. I`ve got such a bright crash and I`m very happy with it...it is loud. and on big stages it won`t leave you.

larlev,
Trade the studio in for a Saluda 17" Mist-X crash,...call or email Jamie, tell him what you have, and what you want, and have him make a suggestion. I have a Mist-X 17 med-thin that just shreds!!

You won't be dissapointed!

You should try out the HHXtreme crash, I have a 18'' and it is awsome! It sounds like a beast, and it is loud as H!

I will put a file on here so you can hear it. Done with a crap mic. so quality is not too god:

Sabian HHX 18" something a bit different from the bright sound of everything else, but still powerful and fitting. I know what you mean about the AAX Studio lacking volume, I own a 16" AAX Studio Crash, it's a lovely tone, if a little quiet, however I have no need for a loud crash anyway.

I agree HHXplosion or power crash, would work a treat...i used to use a 19" AAXplosion with a 18" HHXplosion and the HHX was louder and i thought it had better tone..

I'd look at a 17 inch vault. It would blend with the projection, and you could use the aaxplosion for accents and stuff.

If you are playing in a rock band as you say you, you shouldn't go with anything less than a 17" at smallest. A 16" crash won't cut through as well and you may end up overworking the cymbal and thus, cracking it!

I disagree..........if you are playing in a band that is so called "busy"...then you might want smaller cymbals...not all 16" crashes have problems cutting through.

smaller crashes don't cut through? Chris Adler disagrees I guess......he uses 2 14" crashes along with a 16" to compliment his others...
