I walked into the drum shop in Portland today, only to be standing face to face with a 4 piece pdp in "Tobacco Fade" finish. SO we struck a deal for the Franken-Luds plus a little cash. So farewell my faithful, Giant kit I hope you find a nice home. Lo and behold, the new "Smaller" set.

Hey, you're in Maine? Did you go to the Steve Gadd or BMW clinics? Nice kit dude. The Drumshop is an excellent store.

Nice kit! different companies must have different ideas on what "Tabacco burst" should look like. Coz that to me looks like cherry fade. no matter, beautiful set!

Yes, I live in the Newport area and had to run down to portland today for work, Got those and now have to run back down Monday to drop off the Lud's. Missed the clinics this year, but made a few last year, 2005. Hoping to make a few this year. 2007.

The tag said Tobacco burst, but maybe they threw the wrong tag on, and maybe the color in the pic is off, they go from a dark almost black to a Honey amber in real life.

You sold your ludwig kit with the huge 22x30 bass drums! Im gonna be honest here, i do hope you got alot of extra cash as well as the new, alot. What is it, an LX? And yea that is not "Tobacco Burst", "Tobacco Burst" is the finish that Terry Bozzio has on his kit, which is a black brown sort of fade.

ok, I went to the site to check specs. It's all Birch Not Maple, (My Mistake) but they still sound incredible and yes, Tobacco burst is the only finish that even resembles what I have. Terry Bozzio has candy Black fade laquer over mapa burl exotic finish.

As for the trade off, no there was no extra cash, as awesome as the kicks were, the couple times I wanted to sell them, no one was interested in buying them. And it was a franken Kit, no 2 shells came from the same kit or even the same style kit. I customized the hardware and finish myself and the shells were all mohogany. So now only having to haul around 4 drums as opposed to 10 every other weekend is worth it to me. If you want them though, contact "the drum shop" in Portland Maine.

Congrats Pete on your new bought

It's really a nice set ! Was it brand new ? I ask because PDP had some shell quality control problem and some thend to warp over time but it's covered by the warranty.

Now you'll need to get a double pedal though because you'll find yourself always looking for the second pedal when gigging. Ah ! Ah ! Ah !

Keep rockin' big man ! :-)

Looks cool, and that is Tobacco Fade. PDP only offers two finishes for that kit, Cherry Red and Tobacco fade. If I can find one next year in Cherry Red, I'm snatching it right up!

I like your cymbal layout. I see a lot of kits with the bell inverted like that nowadays.

Very nice, That store in Portland is dangerous.. I try not to go there more than 2-3 times a year because I always spend way more than expected..LOL. Luckily I live about an 1-1/2 away so it is somewhat of a haul.

I am definetly going there when I upgrade in a year or 2 to try out different kits. They pretty much carry every major brand and have them on display for playing.

How much are they asking for your old franken kit?

Congrats!

Nice.....the kit I play, you'll be happy. A couple things....

Tobacoo FADE (not burst) ;)

and....

14x16, not 16x16, PDP doesn't make a 16x16.......and , if that's an FXR kit, that's a 6x14, another nice snare! I like mine, but it's a little partial to certain heads....

ENJOY!! See my link...you can see mine, .......more pics on my bands website

Going to miss the giant Luddies. Make sure to check your bearing edges, as I just posted up a thread concerning those exact drums.

well I ended up selling this kit to a student, and sure enough, I recieved most of my money but got shafted for appx. $130. by his mom and her b/f. Last time I trust anyone.

Good news I still have my ddrum chills with about 15 zildjians on it. plus the gong.

and I hope to upgrade to some exotic DW's or similar, later this winter.

Congrats! I have a PDP LX in the same configuration and could not be happier. Never had any issues with the kit, and they sound great.

Nice kit, I hope you plan on keeping it because they have absolutely no resale value.
I have a beautiful Pacific Exotic Birdseye Maple snare on ebay that I can't even give away.

Sorry to revive an old thread... I had a guy finally buy my Iron Cobras this weekend, and was dreadfully worried that he'd try to stiff me. Ended up being no problem, but I don't let gear leave my hands until I they are full of all negotiated cash.
