Default How do you get on Drummerworld

First off, I am so glad the forums are back, this website is my life. Thanks a lot Bernhard.

I'm not a professional drummer, but drums are my life. I am 17, going to be a senior in high school. I play in a rock band, a jazz trio, my highschool jazz band, and anything else I can find. I also give drum lessons to a few kids for some easy money. I am doing the Berklee 5-week Summer program, starting next week, and I plan on going to Berklee College of Music. I would say that I am just as good as many of the drummers on this website (better than some, worse than others). What exactly does it take to get on this website? I want to be a professional drummer, and I want to have my own page on drummerworld, so I was just wondering exactly what it takes to do that.

Thanks,
Ben

Make a name for yourself. Play in some bands that get recogniton, do studio work. Most of these guys on drummerworld have been playing for years in famous bands or have been renown session musicinans that are willing to record any time any place. I know I may never make it on here, but I am more than happy to have this site as a resouce to learn from and talk to other individuals that share our passion.

man, being on drummerworld is one of many rewards that comes with being great, making a name for yourself and working hard for a long time...you need to be prodigious to make it here without those three things. its one of the things i hope for, but i know i wont acheive without decades of work.

I think if some Drummer has an explosive unique style to illustrate to the Drumming community then this would be the place to discover it. Every Drummer I see here at DW are each very unique players who had the heart and confidence to develope and nurture their own style and announce it to the world.

If its ment to be, it will happen.

Dap.

Well I have not heard your playing but you are only 17 so there is alot of time to develope your style and gain experience. Just practice, practice, practice. Once you make a name for yourself and become famous who knows?

Keep on drumming and good luck.

worry about tempo and groove and the sweet feeling you get when you drum. It takes time but stick with it and things will happen

Why are you rushing Ben, you still have a lot of time to gain a reputation you just need to work your ass out and listen to a lot of music... And never compare yourself with others in terms of being better or worse (this is not a character of a true musician)...

You must have been very confident to post your thread which good but be careful do not let this self confidence go too far to the point that it will blind you and prevent you from progressing towards better drumming concepts...

Trust me try to learn as much as you can and use any opportunity to learn, but never think that they transform people in music schools, a 5 weeks course will not let you play better than Vinnie (who never acheived berkley studying program), or Brian Blade, Steve Gadd, Dennis Chambers, Buddy Rich, Alan Dawson, Roy Haynes, who are on the website... To earn a name in the presence of those monsters is not that easy...
Anyways keep on your effort maybe some day drummerworld will contact you (or your manager) to post your name on the site... :)

The key is to be down to earth, if you are always over estimating what you know you will never learn something new, in order to learn you have to deny what you know, empty yourself and get ready to recieve some new refreshing stuff...

Peace

I would say "I doubt it"... You are probally better than some, and better than myself by a long shot. But I am not going to just accept that without hearing you play first.

After reading several posts on here I got this idea; surely there is a member on here (in addition to Bernhhard) that is capable of creating a website. So, why not create a site featuring "us". You know, like an amature drummerworld? That'd be koo. Just a thought. -Peace

Not only that, but if you go around saying things like this, you usually get a bad reputation of being cocky, thus making it harder on yourself to be accepted in the drumming community. As good as you may be, you gotta go with a more humble approach rather than "I'm better than him."

Get up every day to live & breath with great passion the love and desire for your instrument, and sacrifice all that is nesesary within reason to have the ability to give something back to the Drum World....

Professionalism, Respect and Recognition are far more important than raw talent....these accomplishments can take you a long way in this tough competitive business world, so don't forget about patience, durability and stanima in order to just survive a lifetime of music, and I havn't even spoke about the level of your playing ability or talent level .

I'm certain as you view the video's & read the resumes and bio's of all the world reknown drummers involved on this "Great" website, it should be obvious to you as to what it takes

Good Luck...Peace!!! and have a "Great" day...& work hard..

Lee

In addition to the "get back to reality" bit, It is 100% impossible to get a video of yourself playing posted on a website if all you do is tell that website how great you are, and not even show/send them a video to display if you were that good.

It's good to compare yourself to those who are obviously better than you. That way you'll work harder to achieve that level. Don't rush it man, you're only 17. We don't need another Class A Drummer here. Congrats on the acceptance to berkely to you and Freddie Freeloader.

I'd love to know that as well, except for the fact the guy we are all talking to hasn't been on this board in a year. So we're all pretty much talking to ourselves (lol).

Yeah, I didn't see the year either until a few minutes ago.

The time machine seems to be in full play. Class A just challenged one of last year's Guitar Center competitors. In a few minutes I expect to see Buddy Rich show up to comment on the bus tapes.

If you suddenly do become the greatest drummer ever to grace the face of the planet, and make a load of amazing records and a stack of cash, and Bernhard thinks you're good enought to make the site, make sure you have
a) a bunch of pictures Bernhard can use for a page, and
b) a decently recorded video.

Otherwise your nowhere, my brother.

Well Ben i dont think you'll ever be on this site as a featured drummer . I don't mean to bust your bubble but it takes years of time for the world to reconize your talent . I'm a great drummer too and may have a chance with my band to make the big bucks but still doubt i'll ever be on here .Your young though so stay on that path keep your dreams high and follow through . If you give it all you got and you say your as good as you say you are then im sure your dreams will one day be a reality .

er...I never thought that you are from south africa...

but seriously: I agree with many persons here, it takes a long time to get this...times ago I also asked sometimes if I`m able to get on this site one day...but then I noticed that this is not drumming.
