Default Need a new bass drum head

Merry Christmas all, hope you had a good one.

Anyway, I broke my pearl pro tone batter head on my bass drum. I guess it couldn't handle my pearl eliminators for much longer.

What would be a good strong one that can handle the eliminators? It needs to be 22" and I play heavy metal and rock.

Thanks.

Remo Powerstroke-3, clear with the flam patch installed.

I use Evans for everything but the kick, and just haven't found anything I like better than the Powerstroke-3.

REMO: pinstripe, or powerstroke III

AQUARIAN: super-kick II

EVANS: Emad

ATTACK: any 2 ply head.

pretty much any 2 ply head with a patch should last a while.

i really slam down on my pedal and have a pinstripe with a patch, and theres no signs of breaking, i do want to replace it though, with an aquarian super kick 2.

Powerstroke 3 isnt bad at all. I prefer the EMAD because you can adjust the depth extremely. Not only you can adjust the tightness ( standard ) but it also comes with two different types of foam. one bigger and one smaller so you can get the EXACT sound you want. But the Powerstroke 3 is a REALLY good one too, very nice sound to it.

Peace

Thanks guys. I'll probably get either the Emad or Powerstroke 3.

I used to have and EMAD, the 1 ply version isn't very durable so automatically put some AF Patches on it to prevent denting, especially If you're using the plastic sides of your Eliminator pedals. I really like the Evans EQ3 with an EQ pad resting on the batter head, and if you don't have enough focus put another EQ pad in.

I have an EMAD and I really don't like the thing. I can't understand why it is so special as it sounds just like any other head. Superkicks get get reviews I would suggest those to try. I can't understand how you break a bass head but then again I'm not a heavy player.
People tend to have luck with REMO powerstroke heads too.

My vote goes for the Superkick 2. I use the SK1 and absolutely love it. Regardless of what head you get put the patches on to protect it from the beater!

I just put the SKII on my DW (keller shell) 18x24 and it pumps. I'm trying the new aquarian super thin patch this time around. I have a PS3 ebony on the front. DW beater using the plastic side. I had tried the SKI on it and it was plasticky sounding. I tried a clear PS3 and it was okay, but lacked the low end punch. The SKII is perfect.

I'm going to recommend either the Remo Powerstroke 3 with a Falam patch or an Aquarian Superkick I with a Falam Patch. I've used both and they are excellent heads. Since they're 1-ply, you'll get more volume out of them than you would get put of a 2-ply head. Plus with the Falam Patch, you get even more volume and extra punch and durablilty.

I recommend the Evans EMAD head mainly for the reason that it's durable and you can choose your dampening alot easier.
