Hey Guinness, I've played the Oak Customs and they are a really great kit! The quality is amazing. They have a lot of attack to them and aren't as warm as maple but still sound great, if you were to use these for small gigs I doubt you would have to mic them up. Personally it was not the kit for me, but a great kit nevertheless. For that price you can't go wrong, but what exactly are you getting for this price?

Thanks for the info...I'm getting a 20"- 10" - 12" and 15"(?) tom as well as a snare. I'm actually going back up there on my lunch break to get more details. After researching the prices on the net I believe it would be hard to pass this deal up. I'll let you know specifics a little later.

Sounds like a great deal if your into Oak Customs. They aren't for everyone and Yes, they are loud drums but not the loudest on the market as stated by the salesman. Acrylic drums are much louder IMO. The Oaks are terriffic drums but are mainly "rock" drums. though I'm sure there are other applications in which they can be used. They are by Yamaha which gives them an extra * beside them. So, yes, I'd say thats a good deal.
One point to make... I dont think the Oaks took off like Yamaha had hoped they would and when that happens, company's start looking at discontinuing drum lines that aren't selling. You might think about ordering any (extra) drums to add to the kit if you want them. I might be wrong but I just have a hunch they won't be around much longer. |

Well you have yourself a great deal there, even if it is just the shells. I'd say play the kit before you pay for anything though, Oak isn't for everyone.

Oak kits are nice. They have lots of projection. I sold mine because I found them to be a bit bright in certain settings. For a four piece kit 1350 sounds right. The 15" floor tom is a gem, It's the happy medium between a 14" and 16". Some people find the 14's dont have enough low end depth and the 16" some times tend to be too thudy no matter how you tune them. I know a few drummers who swear by the 15" floor tom.

My buddy bought Weckl's Oak Custom Set right off the stage after his clinic and it sounds sooooo sweet. Drum Headquarters turned the event into a promo where you could buy Dave's kit, plus all hardware after the shows and clinic for $5000.00 (came with both Yamaha Weckl snares and the two bass drums 18" and 22"). Dave admitted he usually plays Maple Custom but he played the Oak Custom for this gig and I will tell you, it sounded killer. Let me know if you end up getting the kit.

The set WAS killer sounding! The kick drum was especially unbelievable. I made the mistake of calling my wife after lunch and telling her of my plans and was shot down cold :(
It will take some work, but I will have this drumset. Women just don't get it sometimes. Does anyone want to buy a Ludwig Accent Custom? I was told by the "boss" that I have to sell this one before I even think of buying it. Women......Can't live with them.....Can't live with them. |

Yeah....lol....I had to make the same agreement with my wife when I bought my Mapex kit a couple of months ago. I promised I would sell my Ludwigs.....they are still in the basement though. Hey good luck...I hope you get your set. Maybe today would be a good day to buy your wife some flowers.

I was checking into the same thing. I was looking at a blond yamaha oak. I posted a thread
wanting to know the same thing you do. Most of the replies I got says there loud, and kind of limited in the tuning department. But still it is a nice kit, and the price you got is just about the same for me. |
