Default New Main Ride

Just picked up a new main ride second hand from a friend of mine. It's a Zildjian 18" K Custom Session Ride. It has a very distinct tone that cuts through with a quick decay. A perfect ride for me. For an 18" it really has a big sound. I'm using my 20" Sabian Pro Dry ride as my secondary now, which is higher pitched and a nice sustain. Now I need new crashes. :)

I haven't played any other K cymbals so I can't compare. I can compare it to the 22" A Ping Ride I was using before though. They both have very defined stickings, although the Session is a lot dryer. It has a very quick decay whereas the ping ride has a very long sustain. The ping ride is great for live and accents, but in my small room it was just too much. This session ride will be perfect.

Man thats a sweet ride. 18" sounds like it would have a very good tone with it. Probably better than a 20".

I've only played 20" and 22" rides in the past. I was a bit skeptical when seeing this one at first, but as soon as I played on it I knew it was the one. The tone is kind of deep.

Yes, that is a Roland pad peeking in at the bottom of the pic. I'm using a hybrid kit right now. It's a four piece acoustic (14, 13, 16, 22) with three of my Roland pads mixed in. I have one positioned between the two toms, and the other two flanking the snare. I also have my hi hat control pedal and the kick trigger on each side of my (real) hi hat pedal. I'm using the kick on the left to help me practice double kicking until I can afford an actual double pedal, then I will move that kick trigger to the right side of my kick drum. I really need to take pics of the new set up. It's been real fun and I'm thinking it's what I will stick with for a while.

My hats are some very old 15" Zildjians. They have no series marked on them, but they would be comparable to A's now.

I love it! It's just so solid- like, hey I'm a ride, you better listen to me... but it doesn't over power the rest of my kit like the Ping Ride I was using not long ago. I play in a rock oriented band, but I love playing funk style and have been getting into a lot of jazz lately, so this ride just rules.
