That's an absolutely beautiful kit. I've been thinking about getting one myself. Nice ride too, but I'm more of a Sabian guy.

Kick ass kit- as I said in the other mapex birch thread, I've always liked Mapex (learned on one, sadly never owned one, yet). That is a very nice kit, and I like the finish. Those K ride cymbals are pretty nice too- great kit!

Thanks for the compliment. I love the sound of these drums. I have been playing with different head options to find the best sound and so far I really like the EC2's on them. I have been very happy with these drums.

Good lookin' set. I also have a "straight up" K ride, although mine's a 22"er. They're pretty sweet cymbals, and that is quite a nice setup you've got there.

Hey thanks! I am loving the K Ride. You should get it. I took the K and a K Custom Medium Ride home and tried them both and really liked the regular K. Fits my playing better. Thanks again!!

haha, i was also choosing between those rides. what made you pick the regular k over the k custom medium? and what type of music do you mostly play?

It is so hard to explain why you like a certain sound but I would have to say the reason I went with the regular K over the K Custom Medium was the volume of the cymbal. It sounded to me like the K Custom Medium would play(sound) better at lower volume playing which I rarely do. I was looking for a washier sound than my A Custom Ping ride and I guess since my ear is trained to hear that ping the K Custome Medium just sounded a little too washy and dry to me. I have been playing a lot of Soulive and Greyboy Allstars stuff lately and the K just sounded right.

To answer your question as to what type of music I play. I mainly played hard rock, funk and metal up until about 3 years ago when I went back to taking lessons. Since then I am trying to learn as many styles as possible. I am currently working out of Rick Lathams Advanced Funk Studies. I guess that K Custom Medium would be a great jazz cymbal and I almost bought it for that reason......but I still suck at jazz. Hope that answers your question.

Awesome ! I like the K but what I love most is the exceptional finish of your kit ! The black Forest green is the best looking finish that Mapex has to offer yet on any kit... It's my cup of tea and love it.

Well I too am looking into the "strait up K" rides. It seems it works nice for you and others, man i need money!!
Green is definitally the color for drums (hence the sig) and 2 up 2 down is the way to go!!

rock on.

Thanks for the compliments! The longer I own this kit the more I like it. The lugs are hard to describe so I will try to get a close up picture for you when I am not at work. If you look closely at the 12" tom next to the ride you can kind of make them out. I love the green fade finish too....like I said I am thrilled to own this kit.

Sweet set! My brother has that exact setup in burgandy. I get to play it when we I go over there and jam. I also switched from a ping ride to a K ride at church. I love how the K ride washes and still has good stick definition for most situations. I also like the K Custom Dark Ride as well. I love how the Dark ride and the K ride sound when crashed.

Thats so weird i was choosing between those two also! I really like the custom but it costs WAYYYYY to much for my taste. nice kit Mapex589 2 up 2 down is the way to go also hows that k ride? Im thinking about getting one of those. It sounds sooooo smooth but im worried it wont cut through hard rock music...oh well ill probably end up getting it anyway as its much cheaper than the custom :)

Hey, thanks for all the kind words about my kit! I am nuts about it! In regards to the 20" K, I really like this cymbal. It does cut better than you think for rock. I never expected it to be as versitile as it is. I play a lot of hard rock and heavy metal and I usually use my A Custom Ping for that style but this cymbal does the trick too. I have never had a bit of buyers remorse with this cymbal....trust me, if you buy the K you will not regret it. Good luck to you.
