Dream cymbals

I got my December issue of modern drummer today. Wow they get them out pretty early. Anyways there is a review on a Chinese made cymbals call Dream Cymbals. Mountain Rhythm imports them. They priced pretty low and the guy who did the review seemed to really like them. He especially liked a 22” ride and it lists for $225 but he says street price will be a lot lower. I have looked on the mountain rhythm website and they only had a small thing about them.

I would like to get these or at least look into them. Does anyone know a place that sells them? Has anyone tried them or if you have read the article what do you think about them.

my local shop actually just bought a couple of them .. theyre tonal quality is very nice since theyre chinese made very dark and vibrant not quite trashy more vibrant ... i do not like the hats though ... the best one i would say is the 18" crash i think theyre pretty nice for the money but its all personal perference

I'm not going to go so far as to say don't buy them because they are junk but I will say be careful. If they have a sound that you like then by all means buy them but if they fall apart after a few months of playing on them I would not be surprised.

I have a 20 inch Wuhan China that I absolutely love but it was very cheap both monetarily and from a durability perspective. It developed a noticeable crack after about three months. But I still hold onto it because it has a great sound.

Generally speaking the "you get what you pay for" mantra is relatively accurate. I have not owned any mountain rhythm products nor have I done much research on them but the ones I have seen in drum shops could be described as middle of the road quality at best. My initial thought would be that if you pay $100 for a ride cymbal then you'll get a ride cymbal that might last you a year.

I have not read the MD review yet (I just subscribed 5 weeks ago and have not seen them in my drum shop yet) so I don't know if they addressed the long term playability of the cymbals but if they did and I am wrong then I can dig that as well.

Like I say though some of the best sounding cymbals I have ever had have been the cheapest (the aforementioned Wuhan and a Sabian B8pro splash). But they also are the only ones I have ever broken. So if you have the money and you like the sound then go for it. But if you need to make sure it is going to last a long time then I might do a little more research or wait for some more definitive posts about them.

thanks for the link. the sound clip of the 22 ride is great. i think i will be getting one of these soon

i just put a thread on this about my hihats[dream]. i bought them here in canada, and they are cheap, but have a sound unique to china meets turkey.
i can't use them for all applications, as they are slow' and are better for ballads, but they offer a good alternative. i bought them on a whim, they sloshed great, but when i tryed some 16thy funky things, it forced my body to adapt to a tension in my time keeping, that said, they could help in adding a tension to the groove,,i am glad i bought them for a hundred bucks, but am glad i have my sabian workhorses still.

i emailed my simi local (half hour drive) about the dream cymbals with in 5minutes they emailed me back saying they could order them for me if i wanted. The 22" bliss ride would cost about $112. So im a pretty happy camper right now

I was able to try a 22 Dream Bliss, the sound was beautiful, kind of trashy and dark. I use a 5A and had to keep light on the touch or it really began to roar. I thought the quality and workmanship was professional grade all the way. I won’t know about longevity until I use one for a while. I ordered an 18 Bliss crash yesterday so it should be in soon and I'll post updates in a few including some pictures. I’m amazed that I got a completely hand hammered quality cymbal for $109. If the crash is as nice as the ride I’m ordering a set of high hats for my second hat.

These Bliss cymbals from Dream are the hot pies among jazz community right now... Very nice cymbals at a really affordable price.

everyone seems to love the 22" bliss but i seem to really like the 22'' contact. i think i would get one of them and if i like it then the bliss

Update,
My 18 inch Dream bliss crash arrived and I spent about an hour on the kit with it today. OMG, this thing is amazing, the quality and sound are outstanding. I don't know what tickled me pink the most the $109 (eBay) dollar price tag or fantastic sound.

I have just found out that Songbird music has reduced the price of the 20" ride, from 120$ cdn to 100$ cdn

well i havent herd back from the music store. i tried to order but the guy i spoke to was missing quite a few brain cells. He told me he would get back to me and he hasnt yet. And http://www.frontrangebronze.com is out of 22" contacts. I am kinda mad right now

The Dream cymbals are of top quality craftsmanship, as good as anything you'll get coming out of any other factory. These are among the MOST hand-hammered cymbals being produced in the world right now, because the profile is sledgehammered into shape, as opposed to rolled into a flat piece and then hammered into shape like most of the Turkish companies. I would highly reccomend them to anyone at all.

well i got my 22'' contact crash/ride today. Ive been playing on it for about an hour or so. Here are my thoughts

The cymbal just looks GOOD, i love the stick sound, the crash sound, and the bell sound. The crash is really loud! it has a really clear stick sound the bell has a great cut to it.
The cymbal has a dark trash kinda sound. It is very versitle from what i have herd. I has a great rock and jazz feel to it. later this week when i play with my band and when i get back to school and play jazz band ill let you know if it fit in as well as i think it will. But anyways this cymbal is great and it was only $138

I wanna get myself a set of contact and bliss cymbals. The soundfiles of these things sound simply amazing, and you can't beat the price.

Now guys you should see the never ending Dream cymbals thread on cymbalholic - there's awesome sound files posted there too, and guys there seem to never get enough of these cymbals, even dealers are out of stock.

ive seen the thread if it wasnt for that the article in modern drummer and that thread i would have never thought about getting it.

today i played with jazz band for the first time with it. It was great! i have never had a cymbal that responded as good as it did with brushes. it has just the right amount of wash and some sweet overtones. It has become a little more dry and now its just perfect. I highly recommend these to anyone who want great handhammered cymbals for a fraction of the cost

A great day! My 22" Bliss ride and 14" hats arrived from the US this morning from Front Range Bronze (best packing job I've ever had for cymbals.)

The ride has a pleasing & musical sound, although the wash is a bit more fierce than I would normally like, as I like a strongly articulated stick sound. I stuck a 5cm piece of electrical tape underneath, radially in from the edge and that did the job of cutting the wash back to an acceptable level.

I was surprised at how good a crash it makes (with the tape removed!) Had never thought of having a 22" crash. It tones in quite well with the 18" HHX Studio Crash next to it. And when rolled with tymp sticks it is LOUD.

The hats sound fine although they do have one slightly disconcerting characteristic - the bottom hat won't sit flat on the hi hat stand. It has a pronounced lean, like 3- 4 cm, which means the hats are touching at all times. The hand based manufacturing process doesn't produce the perfect balance of my K's (admittedly these were also 25% of the price of K's). I like my hats to be aligned, so I'm going to have work out a fix.

I have a pub gig with my blues band tonight and am busting to see how the new gear sounds in the mix.

dont worry about the wash of the ride. After a few weeks of play it will dry up. cymbal rolls with mallets will help speed it up (thats the rumer at least). I was surprized with my contacts crash sound too. Im planning on getting a 22'' bliss really soon. I love these cymbals! get us some pics

1st gig with the Bliss 22" and the Bliss 14" hats went well.

The ride had a good clean sound that cut through the mix and the cymbal sound fitted well the band and the wash did not intrude (6 piece electric blues band with horns.) It crashes beautifully and toned in well with my 18" HHX Studio crash. A firm roll on it with tymp sticks produced a huge crescendo when required.

The hats sound very different to my K's, but certainly sound like a professional cymbal. They are surprisingly loud, with a strong chick and a pleasing, if different tonality. Am still undecided as to how good they are and will take the two pairs of hats to our next gig and alternate them to get a better idea. However, for under A$200 versus A$650 + for top shelf hats, they are great value.

Update on my Bliss, I've been pretty hard hitting these last few months and the Bliss is holding up well. The sound is still amazing and for 109 dollars its been a great investment.

ive been useing my 22'' contact for EVERYTHING its been great. Ive played in two clinics and at each one they commented on the ride sound so im glad i got it i love it. oh and at band practice if i just need to shut everyone up i crash it a few times and then their quiet.
