Default Kind of Aquarian double-thin are back !

Exactly ! Aquarian just announce the new double ply head called SUPER- 2

I heard of these heads before the Aquarian press release. They are kind of double-thin but maybe little bit thicker (it seem to be a mix of one medium + one thin weight double ply heads) which they claim, are more open and resonant than response II.

Hey thanks for the info.
I'm going to let my local Long& McQuade store about them, and try 'em out.
Funny, but that store has really taken to Aquarian, and stocks a ton of them.
Aquarian generally really seems to be getting a lot of attention these days.
Definately the best constructed heads on the market.
Cheers
Phil

So are cardboard boxes. Perhaps a bit over stated, but my response was to take them off my drums as quickly as possible. The tone was OK, but theses heads lacked volume and projection. Maybe a good choice for jazz.

The new heads sound interesting. Ditto on the Studio X heads. Great sound but the dent easily. Haven't had the problem with any others. Thanks for the heads up.

It's not you. I Got a set of them and they were shot just from tuning them. Especially the 10 inch.

I spoke with Mr. Burns at aquarian for about 45 minutes.....(great guy by the way)

These heads are 2 ply....with 1 ply being 5mm and the other 7mm....I'll post a detailed review once they arrive....from talking to Mr. Burns..these heads will bridge the gap from studio-x and response 2's..which is exactly what I wanted to hear...tone of the x's but the durability of the 2's.....

Is it 5 mil and 7 mil instead of mm which is a thickness measure ?

Thank's for the info BTW :)

I like the look of those. I do want 2-ply depth, but not sluggish response. I may try the super-2 coated heads.

Hmm, I'm gonna have to try these. I play clear Studio-Xs on my toms and snare, and was going to switch to Responce-2's for added durability, but these sound more up my alley.

Now to decide if I should go for clear or coated, and with plain, power-dot or Studio-X rings.

My God, there are so many options. Being a drummer is hard.

I have a texture coated Super 2 on my 6.5x14 Starclassic Maple. At first, I felt that it was too dry; then again I always hate new snare heads. After a week or two playing, it seemed to get more overtones and I love it! Its very sensitive and responsive but with a great mid-range crack. I have it cranked fairly tight and it has not lost any punch. I can't wait to get some for my toms.

I'll 2nd that; Mr. Burns responded to an email I sent him regarding Aquarian heads, asked me to call him, and spoke to me as if he knew me his entire life.

More than a few large corporations could learn things from Mr. Burns about customer service.

Aquarian has made a customer for life in me.

I can't wait to get my new Super-2s.

Are you going all super -2 on your toms?

I just read the section on super-2's and the clears might be just what I am after. The coated may be a touch dry sounding.

Yessir.

I have a set of Studio-X on my Sonor Force Maple (1994 Vintage), and I love them.

I have been using EC2s / G1s on my Mapex Saturns recently, but I've got a set of Super-2s on the way. 8x8, 10x8, 12x9, 14x11, 16x13, fwiw.

The recent change from Evans EMAD2 to Aquarian Superkick II and Regulator made me take a harder look into Aquarian heads; I'm glad I did. I feel that not only am I making my drums sound killer, but I'm supporting a company that knows what's important.

Okay....I'm off my soapbox now, LOL.

So follow me as preaching for Aquarian heads !

P.S. seriously glad you like them, there isn't lot of people disliking them after trying them.

I can believe it, aquarians sound much warmer and less plasticky to me. They make most of remo and some of evans irrelevant to me.

Saturns are amazing drums, and the probably won't sound better than with those super 2's. All the depth, and all the warmth, but without losing response.

i don't know, the coated evans ec2's i'm running right now are definitely giving my long

time favorite, coated studio x's a run for their money. not so much in sound, because

they're pretty similar, but mostly in terms of durability.

i would like to try the super 2's next though. those that have/ are getting super 2's... are

you getting coated or clear, and are you getting it with or without the muffling ring?

I'm getting them clear with the "studio x rings".

I'm off the EC2s. They now belong to a 14 yr old.
